Insulin
I was diagnosed in 2009 and was offered the pump but said no due to the fact of just wanting to be able to do my injection then put my insulin away so no one could see it but since then my control has gone down hill along with my health so ive been looking into switching to the pump as it seems it might help with my problems but if im honest im scared to..
Id just love some advice from people who have the pump to see what its like and how its different

Thanks

easy and simplest answer is life changing, so if you have the chance and dedication to commit to the work that is needed then go for it if you can

Hi I resisted a pump for years as I didn't want anything permanently attached but needed better control as I wanted a family (diabetic since 1982). It has been the best decision-better control as I suffer badly with dawn phenomenon. Yes there are times when a pump attached isn't the greatest and sometimes hurts a little putting it in if you catch it but it's better than getting out pens and needles-more discrete etc. I've been on mine now for over 5 yrs and hba1c has been pretty good.
I'm sure I trialled mine for a few weeks before deciding it was for me so maybe ask if you could do this?
My 2yr old is just about to go on one in a couple of weeks too to try help her control. I think I'm more nervous about her than me (don't really think about it now!).
Good luck

Thankyou for this if a 2 year old can do it so can I! Good luck to your little one! Keep us updated on how they do xx

I love my pump! I've been on a pump 12 years and I'd never go back to injections.

The pump has given me back my freedom. For the first few days it felt weird, but that was soon outweighed by the fact that I felt physically and mentally more like myself and like I felt before diagnosis.

Are you scared of anything in particular about a pump?

There's nothing specific I'm scared about just worried in general it's such a change from injections

It is a change, but a positive one, I think :)

I felt better by imagining my pump was kind of like a pancreas, and was just doing the job my pancreas couldn't do :)

I honestly don't notice it now, and it's great at dealing with things like my dawn phenomenon.

Don't worry - I'm sure you can do it. Good luck :)

I've been IDD since 1971, injecting with syringes and then pens, it took me 3-4 yrs from being first offered till I accepted the pump (4 yrs ago). My concerns were all around the - what do I do with it - how will I manage carrying it around.

I was having issues overnight that I could only control with a pump so gave in a got one - the best decision I'd made till then. The second best decision was adding a self funded CGM.

Go for it, I doubt you will ever look back.

Everyone is probably the same prior to moving to a pump @keishamarie, I certainly was apprehensive and a little scared tbh as changing from injections to being permanently attached to a pump is a big decision for anyone to make, but like all the other contributors to this thread it was the best decision I've made and it has been life-changing being free from injections, most of the worry's & concerns I had pre-pump have been put to bed post-pump (I've only been pumping insulin for 11 months).
