Insulin Pumps

I am Jenny.
I have been offered a choice of 3 pumps . They are Animas, Roche Insight ,or the Medtronic 640 G.
I was wondering if anybody had any views on which is the best to use.The Pro,s and con,s.
I have no clue about any of these other than what I read but I thought it would be better to ask people that use them.
 
I don't think there's anything especially distinguishing between them.

Animas vibe can integrated with the dexcom G4 if that's something you would be interested in funding.

Medtronic 640 can integrate with an enlite CGM and that would give the pump a predictive low suspend feature.

Best idea would be to get hold of the pumps - see if the hospital has demo pumps where you can actually handle them, press the buttons, see the screen. That should help you figure out which on suits you best. If you can't do that, have a search on YouTube for each of the pumps and you should be able to find people using them, siting the cannulas and wearing pumps on belts or on their waistbands or slipped into their pocket, which might give you more of an idea of what you would prefer in a pump.

I have a Vibe and love it :) @Juicyj has a Medtronic. I did try an Insight but hated it. However some people here have them and are fine with them.
 
Hi @Jenny2754 welcome ;)

It's great to have a choice, however as I've only used the 640g I can only vouch for this, the 640g is used with a cannula set with different size tubings, you can self fund the CGM if you want a more integrated and responsive system as it will turn off insulin if you go low, it's worth looking at YouTube vids for all pumps and to then decide which features are more important and accessible for you and your control, personally I am happy with the 640g, it's been easy to use and the customer service is excellent.
 
Hi @Jenny2754 , I have an Insight and I LOVE it!

Mind you, it's my first pump, so the fact that it IS any kind of pump feels to be like a huge improvement over my 29 years of mostly MDI, so I think I'd feel the same regardless of brand. Frankly it could be made out of egg boxes and PVA glue and I'd be happy - pumping is just such an improvement on my previous pre pumping life.

One thing I love about it is that the cartridges are prefilled so I don't have to do much faffing every time my insulin runs out. It's swings and roundabouts, though, and I'm sure they all have their pros and cons!
