Hello everyone,

Apologies if this has already been covered on another thread - I couldn't find anything related to type 1 on type 2.

Since diagnosis last year I have put on a LOT of weight and fat and I 100% put it down to having insulin as my food and lifestyle has not changed at all.

I have been told about intermittent fasting and wondered if anyone has tried this before?

Is it a viable option as a type 1? Does it work etc?

I am hoping to eventually move onto a pump as my dietician has said that will definitely help in terms of the amount of insulin I'm taking and reducing it to only one type.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, well I quite often eat in an 8 hour window. If your basal is right you should be Ok to fast, but keep an eye on numbers. Can’t say it results in weight loss for me though.

I often only eat in a 8 or 10 hour window and it doesn't make a difference on weight loss. If I want to lose weight I have to drastically cut down what I eat for several days in a row. This also makes me super sensitive to what insulin I do end up taking whether it is in basal or bolus form.

I've had a weight bounce of 6 kg due to beginning insulin. I guess it was because I was basically starving beforehand. Like you, I'm a little worried. I have an 8-hour gap between my two meals, so this isn't helping. After things settle down I'm going to have to cut back on cream in everything as it must be total calories at the end of the day.

Thank you all for your responses! I am not so worried about the weight itself more just fat loss than numbers - this is as I'm building muscle so that will add weight number wise!!

I agree that it's defo to do with calories too so I'll probably just try and stick to a 700 calorie deficit!

Diabetes is all about numbers anyway so what's adding a few more in!?
