Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi there I want to introduce myself I am type 2 diabetic and I have learned so much from all you lovely people. I am 55 years old and very new to all of this. I live in Northern Ireland and get lots of help from my doctor and diabetic nurse. I am researching all the time for new recipes and natural things to help me. I am just experimenting with kefir each morning made with dairy free coconut milk which is a required taste but all the goodness is there. My blood sugar is about 5.4 first thing and then goes up to 6. So I think that's ok?

Hello All,
Newbie to the forum and newbie to trying to understand blood sugar issues as well.
I'm from Texas, my doctor is a veterinarian, and we are working through this together.
You see, I was having my mares preg tested at the Doc's place and apparently my blood sugar had gotten a little bit low and I passed out while moving the horses from one pen to another.
I woke up on a cot with a IV of saline in my arm. Everyone had assumed I had succumbed to dehydration and heat exhaustion but I'm certain that it was because I hadn't eaten breakfast.
Since childhood I had to have a good protein filled breakfast to stay awake till noon. Otherwise I would just simply not be able to stay awake and I would get really cranky and unfocused.
I've been able to manage with being careful to eat good protein in the mornings and several small meals every few hours until mid-life but as I've aged I've grown intolerant of breads, potatoes, and starches and of course sweets and sugars.
Meat is my mainstay.
I'm looking for people who have been able to moderate their diet to control their blood sugar without the severe highs and lows that are so debilitating.
I'm going to start reading the forum now and find out what I can learn.
