Ah wish I did pay more attention to this when I was younger. I play no sports as of now but I do love figure skating.

Used to. But not now since mu sugars and BP seem to be under control somewhat.

I have a tattoo on my upper back. It is a Latin phrase that my then BF and now husband introduced me to "Sic Transit Gloria Mundi"

Hi new to here, Became a diabetic Type 1 at the beginning of September. Checked into A and E and 5 days later checked out with insulin. Blame it on an early lifestyle in the City as no history in the family so self inflicted.

My name is Ian, I'm 58 and male.
I'm from the UK but lived abroad for many years - Thailand, where I still have a house to retire to.
I'm currently living in York, though have lived in Northumberland, Bucks, Scotland, Norfolk.
I am a Buddhist and have been for over 30 years.

Hello every one
Just wanted to introduce myself.
I've been reading all the info here for the past 6 months and wanted to say thank you!!!!! It has saved my life.
I was officially diagnosed in November given Glilizde and metforim with a 10.9 A1C but have been struggling with POCS and all the "joys" it comes with for over ten years.

I always had a pretty "good diet" with a lot of vegetables and whole grains. and but nothing was working. Not even a year of high intensity work outs. My weight increased to 280 lbs and I was seriously considering lap band surgery this January. I knew I was too young to feel this old. With my whole body aching and depression, something needed to change.
I stopped with the glizide with my doctor agreeing to it for three months. I understood that with POCS, I was insulin resistant and that was not right for me.
So I went on a low carb higher fat way of living in March, having been encouraged by the suscess stories here. With my glucose meter in hand after every meal! I believe this was a key to my success.

Also since May I have started interment fasting three to four days a week. Eating supper then having my first meal at 1pm the next day.
As of this morning I have lost 45 lbs since March and have a A1C of 5.9!!!!!
I think that's 41.
My energy level is fantastic, my mood is high and am without being hungry.
Thank you all. I have found what works for me with your help.

I've been a type 1 diabetic for 30 years and had reasonable control.

I think that I was probably too hasty and wanted to jump right in. And that is exactly what I did. I'm not going to post links to my 1st posts as it's easy for you to find them by visiting my profile page. So, if you can't wait (I have absolutely no idea why you would be so desperate as I am quite boring) to find and read my posts, you can check them there.

Where I am from is somewhat complicated: born in Detroit; moved to Boston when I was 8; moved to Atlanta when I was 11, grew up there and went to uni; taught English in Japan; then Kuwait, where I met my Irish-Welsh-British husband; visited UK and Ireland, fell in love with Anglesey; moved to Al Ain, UAE, 15 years, two kids; summers on Anglesey, finally bought an old cottage there; boys and husband returned to the UK last year to do GCSEs etc; I transferred to Dubai for one more contract (UK spouse visa financial requirements are crazy expensive).
