Hi I'm a newby, found out I'm diabetic in May this year (2016).

Going to be a bit stingy with the questions but here's some:

Was 106kg in May now 87kg have halved my average readings from 84 to 48 diet only but:
very stressed about highs (8 to 9) most mornings.

Hi I'm Marc. Been diabetic since 1977 (2 when diagnosed) so have seen it all! From 4 injections a day it's a needle 15mm long on th end of a metal syringe, to 2 a day and serious limits on food during my most rebellious years, to carb counting and DAFNE and finally onto an insulin pump 4 years ago. Just started this eek with CGMS and love it! Onto the minimed 640g now and love pump therapy. Best thing ever from a diabetes standpoint (short of a cure!)

Good on you. I'm much the same - I've lost family members to Cancer, brain haemorrhages and seen some debilitating diseases take people away - Diabetes is just something to get on with - it's manageable - causes very few problems when well managed so the people who see it as a "sympathy badge" do my head in!! Welcome to the forum

Hi, I have plucked up the courage to join and introduce myself. I have recently (2 weeks) been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I wasn't surprised as I went to the dr and asked to be tested. I had been having symptoms that I googled. My blood result was 18.8. I have been for another blood test this morning as the dr said that the first one only checked blood sugar rather than everything.
The dr gave me metformin but said I could try changing my eating habits first. I have chosen to do this. So far I am going low carb. I am vegetarian and so eat lots of veg and am keeping my fruit intake to 5 portions a day. I eat quorn products occasionally but most of our foods are cooked from fresh ingredients.
I have no idea how to measure carbs in fresh foods, in fact I have no idea how to measure carbs in packet foods do I note down the carbs or the carbs and the carbs that sugar to get a total?

One good thing to come from this is my daughter is going to be eating low carb along with me as she does not want to pass eating habits on to her children.
