I too have an angry rash front of my neck (like a sore razor rash), I thought perhaps due to metformin since increased to 1000 mg per day. Should not really drink with metformin so I tend to adjust my dose time when drinking 'red wine' so as not to conflict.

My name is Penny I live rural Lincolnshire, i have a rather large St Bernard dog Jackson who loves everyone a real softie. I turned 60 last year retired hoping to get some sort of voluntary work this year and get fit as I have let myself go.
We have a caravan that I enjoy I like quite sites in the country surpose that describes me I do not like a lot of noise or over commercialed sites or holiday venues love the Lakes and Norfolk. I have a caring nature and would have loved to work with dogs.
Music think Queen are great enjoy rock and roll but will listen to most music depending on my mood.
The reason I have joined I found out last week I have diabetes type 2 and lookin for any advise on food etc and dealing with living with it.

Hi my name is Tracy and i live in Birmingham England, i am 43 yrs of age, i have 3 boys aged 22, 17 and 11yrs old. I have 2 dogs, one a dopey labrador called Oscar and a crazy husky called Pheonix. There's not much to say about me really only that i was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes about 2 years ago and i am still trying to get things under control. I suppose i would be described as being laid back,caring and possibly a little weird lol, im looking forward to getting to know you all.

I've been looking for a Diabetic Forum for quite some time before discovering "Diabetics UK".
I had a look around the diffirent boards, liked what I read...decided you all come across as rather friendly. So, I said to myself, "that'll do me just fine", and registered.

I'm a 68 year old male with type 2 diabetes.

My wife and I live in Scotland.
We both are believers in, and followers of, a man with the initials JC.

We have 3 children and 10 grandchildren.

I retired at 50 due to a number of health issues.

I'm disabled but not in the severest of categories.

I tend to worry a lot, and prone to clinical deppression.

We've a cat who will be 2 this year and is taller than our 9 year old dog.

Hah, ever been in love? ....still am.

Wealthy? depends what's considered wealthy.
I'm wealthy in a few areas of my life.

Diabetes was officially discovered 17 years ago, but convinced I've had it for years before that.

I80mg Gliclazide 2 tabs twice per day.
Lantus Solostar injection 65 once per day.
Victoza injection 1.2 per day.

Other meds....
Finisteride 5mg once per day.
Lanzoprazole 30mg twice per day.
Venlalic XL 75mg 1 per day.
Tabphyn MR 400 mg 1 per day.
Ferrous Fumarate 210mg 3 per day.
Ramipril 5mg 1 per day.
Amlodipine 10mg 1 per day.
Atenolol OL 50mg 1 per day.
Aspirin disp 50mg 1 per day.
Co-Codamol 30 + 500mg Max up to 2 tabs 3 times per day.

Hi my dad has diabetes and controls with insulin, but recently has advised me he is waking up, fully awake and is seeing very vivid images of peoples faces, mostly people he does not recognise but recently saw me, thinking it was that vivid he tried to speak to the image of me. He seems to be seeing these images more and more and I wondered if anyone can tell me what this is and how we can try to control it.
 
hi my name is keverne i was told last week i have type 2 my oral glucose tolerance test results were 13.5 and after 2 hours was 27 i have been put on metformin twice a day have to diabetic nurse next week for monitor. this is all at the moment any help please ?
 

About me :
Hello new to this diabetic lark me, i am what is called a forced diabetic having just the head of my pancreas left and no spline, reason for this had cancer but not any more
Sadly i still smoke, well until this Wednesday when i quit again
Love Kira my wife to bits known her 16 years and been together coming up 14 years now and marred 9 this march.
We have 6 children, 4 boys oldest is 12 and 2 girls .
Worked all my life up until April 2011 and after a year out a work and it sinking in i will never work again been on sick about 1 year now myself.
Wife is a dinner / lunch lady out our local school and loves her job

been a diabetic sometime but refused the injections up until a week before Christmas this year when I started to have very bad turns, i struggle with high BS and keytones in my wee wee :s
I need another major op so had to get my BS under control before anyone would slice me open again

We like to think we are a down to earth normal couple that enjoy most things in life,like doing things as a family and enjoy being with each other.

Wife's in to tattooing , Santa brought her a full kit for xmas just gone, She does all this fancy nail stuff happy to piece peoples ears only and likes to make her own ear rings , enjoys cross stiching too.
Me i like shooting, but never shot anything that is living i like murdering tin cans love flying kits remote control helicopters and cars and for xmas i got a unicycle i will try and tame when a little better later this year.
Fist time using this forum and not sure i got it right, but here we are hello from the Watts family.

Hi, I am 65 years of age and I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 when I was 40 years old . My diagnosis occurred when I went for tests due to a severely painful and disabling back illness which eventually led to my semi-retirement back in 1990 when I was 43. After 3 major back operations 2 metal plates, 6 bolts and 2 cages I still have continual pain , some pins and needles type numbness on the top of my right foot, occasional collapses due to either the weather conditions or because I have not paced myself during the day :thumbdown:. My diabetes is mostly under control but I do tend to go off track during holidays and especially over the Christmas and New Year period :roll: . When I had test strips on prescription I could control my diabetes much better and on a daily basis but my GP has refused to give me any more test strips on prescription because he believes I should just have the HbA1c tests once or twice per year which obviously doesn't help me at all to be in control on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis anymore! :thumbdown:

I still work part time in the business that my wife and I set up when I knew I would be invalided due to my back problems and over 23 years we have gone from extreme poverty often using my incapacity money to pay our staff wages just to keep the business going in quiet times (as our business has seasonal tendencies). I am pleased to say that over the past few years we have managed to pay off business and home mortgages and any loans we had to start up the business and now at long last with these paid up and also drawing our state pensions we are in profit :thumbup: . The road hasn't been easy. I am hoping that I can get into a better eating routine that will enable me to counteract the damaging effects of my diabetes. I have worked out that I can cut out sweet sugary items without too many cravings by turning to fruit as a substitute for cakes, puddings and biscuits and mostly enjoy eating two clementines or a banana or both after a meal which also helps keep my weight down to my preferred 11 stone 6 lbs or below. My part time job is working from home as a company director doing things like graphics, DVD editing, wages, feasibilities and the like so it is very sedentary work and therefore I have long been a member of a gym that I visit once per week to swim and exercise on recumbent cycles and arm machines only as others are no good for my back. I also do 2 x isometric exercises and 200 bent knee sit ups (bent knee doesn't make my back worse) every morning of the week and also try to add 50 press ups leaning forwards against the kitchen worktops again best position for my back. I take my health seriously and also include very carefully chosen vitamin and mineral supplements in my diet on a daily basis. I have tried and tested many types of diet over the years in the Health & Beauty business which we are in and can honestly say that the best diet ever is one of eating a balanced good fats and low sugar diet and keeping portions to a reasonable size . I compensate size of meat portions and hi carbs with more green veggies to help curb my appetite. I have also found over the years that I can miss out a heavy lunch or if I have a larger lunch then I might often have another bowl of 'no added sugar' muesli or porridge for tea instead of a full meal. My wife and I also enjoy cycling on flat bike trails during the Spring and Summer and although I find standing and sitting in straight backed chairs increase my back pains, walking is okay if the weather is dry and sunny. I am also an author of Sci-fi and poetry on Kindle and love to travel home and abroad, cruises however do tend to have very sweet, rich food which can really be irresistible :shh: . Having once been in the wine trade I do like my wines and also brandy but do not overindulge in either. :wave:

there are so many diets around and cant seem to decide which one to go for as id like to lose a couple od stone so help would be appreciated..Im on metformin and suffer the odd leg carmps which are really painful im also on statins and blood pressure tablets.
i live in a small village near stonehenge so getting out on my bike is no problem save for the english weather.
im a radio amateur and also do my own mechanics on cars and motorbikes.I drink red wine but only once a week and then 2 glasses.3 children.2 boys and a girl.ages 24 22 20 and all still at home and relying on the bank of mum and dad.
