hi there,
my name,s karen, i have been a type 2 diabetic for 18 years now, starting off with diet changes at first, moving onto metformin after about 2 years, i,m now insulin dependant also, and have been for about 9 years now.
i,m 52 years old with 3 grown up children and 2 grandchildren and i live alone with my little dog, toto.
i,ve joined this forum so that i can chat to and swap information with other diabetic people like me
At the moment my sugar levels are spiralling out of control on a regular basis, so, i am being closely monitered by my gp. 
if anybody else is going through this at the moment, or, as, any help or guidence would be greatly appreciated xxx :?

Hi all, my names Laura, I'm 32 and I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2006 (although I had it before then apparently).
I've had a tough time with diabetes, what with Ulcers, a broken foot due to Charcot and general illness.
This all changed last year in April, I was given a stark realisation of what may happen in the years ahead. From that moment I completely changed my diet, I've lost nearly 3 stone and my sugars are now healthy between 4 and 7.
I didn't get on with any of my previous Diabetic nurses because I always felt like they were looking down at me and constantly telling me I was doing things wrong but Carmel, my present nurse has been amazing. She's very blunt and to the point whilst being caring and helpful. Without her wise words I'd probably still be in a plaster cast with ulcers all over my feet.
Diabetes isn't hard to live with, it's hard to deal with but once you've found your own way and your determined enough to work with it, life can be brilliant.

I'm 40 yrs young married have a crazy staffy, I don't work due to ill health but try and keep as active as I can.
I'm up north in South Yorkshire .
And next month I'm going on the DAFNE course

I am 30 years of age and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 27.5 years ago. For years I have attended regular appointments for retinopathy screening, however I have received a letter this weekend saying that there have been diabetic changes to my eye(s). I am being referred to a specialist eye doctor who will examine my eyes and assess whether any treatment is needed. I am sick with worry!
I am reading some terrible things online. Also I would really love to have children but am currently single and am concerned about whether or not this will be possible in the next few years due to the risks involved with pregnancy and retinopathy.
I have never let diabetes stand in my way but I am very upset at the moment.

(((hugs))). You are young and despite your current concern I have read of many with complications who have had children.

I have read that some complications to the eyes can be treated very succesfully and have had positive reports confirming it.
I hope yours is a minor problem which can be sorted quickly.
