Hi @Helen Roberts, welcome and no jokes about Popeye, Olive Oil, Garfield or bats out of hell, I promise. Cooking sounds like a marvellous hobby and a tad more sustaining than kite-flying. I imagine your occupation has its own soothing rewards as does the county you live in. Living in sun-burnt Australia I envy your lower temperatures and the opportunity to grow so many things. So So please enjoy your life and learning, reading and posting. After 51 years on insulin I am still learning, but maybe that is to do with the hot summers here and my stubbornness which has helped me survive but makes me tread carefully ( and no, only seen two snakes, several venomous spiders and one platypus in the wild). Best wishes.Hi there. My name is Helen and I’m 58, living in Ely in the beautiful county of Cambridgeshire.
I’m Type 2, and have been for about 9 years or so.
I’ve 2 cats and my hobbies are cooking (unfortunately), and gardening.
I’m a holistic massage therapist, so I try to live my life with a holistic and natural way as much as I can.
Some of my favourite bands are Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, Elbow, Status Quo and Meat Loaf, but I like a varied range.
Main food dislikes are spinach and porridge.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you all and picking up tips to help this journey to manage this disease.
Have a wonderful Friday all.

Here is an altogether more serous read - Dr Bernstein has written THE great classic on diabetes. Or maybe I should say, "A" great classic, before I get into too much trouble with people who favour other writers. I suggest you have a wander round his site and if his ideas speak to you, invest in his blockbuster book. His Laws of Small Numbers might help allay some of your anxiety. It certainly makes sense to me.Alexandra 100 thats very helpful thank you
Hello Helen, I meant to respond to this before, but life got in the way. I totally empathise with "my hobbies are cooking (unfortunately)". Since I have been eating lower and lower carb I have been obliged to cook more and more, and I seem to have no time for anything else! It's not that I dislike cooking, not at all, I would just like sometimes to go back to those carefree days when I did assembling rather than cooking and a meal could be fruit, nuts, milk and sourdough bread with (bought) hummus. I too love cats, though I don't share my house with any. I also hate spinach, but I LOVE porridge, or rather I used to when it was on offer.Hi there. I started using a Continuous Glucose Meter by Abbott 30 days ago and have found it very useful. Several surprises. My glucose reading hits a low sometime between 3:00 and 5:00 AM and then it rises. I have been using intermittent fasting to control my diabetes. I finish dinner by 6:30 PM and next meal is after following noon.I am anew member. I have had Diabetes Type2 since 2000.
