im new.
my name is mandy, im 59 years old and i have type 2 diabetes.in feb this year i was put on levemir as my bs were out of control. im disabled since birth and i have very poor mobility because of this. i have no friends, no close family nearby and im very lonely so i eat for comfort
im a Christian

ive been using the diabetic patch, has anyone else gone on this?
 
Good day ladies and gentlemen,
My name is Denis and I AM a Canadian. On Monday of this week, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes although I have suspected I had the issue for at least five years. Currently I am 71 years old and apart from the diabetes hiccup, I am in good health and remain very active. My 5;8" frame weighs in at 140lbs. Although my distance running days are well and truly behind me, I power walk 3 to 5 miles a day and work out in the gym every other days.
Perhaps the reason I ignored the diabetic symptoms (and they were apparent) was that I was caregiver for my beautiful wife who valiantly battles cancer for 19 years. She was more important. Now, I will look after my health and my needs.
I am a writer and that is to what I devote my time to. My daughters and grandson occupy a lot of my joy.
My doctor's appointment, of course, led to tests and on Monday, my presumption of Diabetes was realized and now the game is afoot to at least control it although I expect to send it into remission. I am delighted to be a part of this Forum now. It will guide me as it guides the rest of the members.
I think perhaps the minor positive in all of this is that it has distracted my attention from a deep ache at the loss of my wife. She fought cancer with a strength of a thousand and I will fight Diabetes following her example.
Fortunately, in Canada, I can access the best in British dramas and comedies from which I get great pleasure.
That is about it, really.

Hi @Silverback-381 And welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your wife, she sounds like she was one fine lady. Your family will be a great help to you, I'm sure.

As to the diabetes I am the same age, height and weight as you, I was Dx'd with Pre diabetes nearly three years ago. With the help from others on here, you will be able to keep the diabetes in check, as I have, they are a very knowledgeable bunch.

Hmmm... I really suck at having to chose a favorite anything, I'm sorry. I'm an INFP. But here are some of my favorite movies:

Compared to people in some countries I am very wealthy. But, for a US Citizen, living in California, I barely make enough to afford to live here. I would say I am not wealthy, and I am fine with that. But again, compared to some people in some countries, I am super wealthy.

- Do you work? If so, as what?
Yes, I work in the IT department at a college, and I love my job. I work as the administrative assistant to the director of IT, plus I am the campus webmaster, plus, I troubleshoot technical issues. They call me the gatekeeper, I answer all the incoming IT calls and solve problems, if I have to escalate the call to a specialist I will but my job is to keep the call load down so the specialists can do other things, therefore I am kind of the shield for the IT department. If I can't solve it, I'll find the answer!

I have a bachelors in Psychology, I have three Associates Degrees in: Sociology, Humanities & Holistic Health. I studied Oracle Database Administration & Design for 2 years and have my certifications in that also. I also love to study for fun, everything in the metaphysical sciences as well as eastern religions.

Everything. Physical: I love my hair, my smile, my eyes, my legs and my feet. Personality: I love that I am open-minded, friendly and very curious! I love my spirituality, and positive attitude and the fact that I love myself and love others around me, and genuinely love life.

That I have indulged myself so much that now I am pre-diabetic, but I forgive myself, I am human, and I am a foodie. I will do my best to overcome this, and learn as much as I can about eating healthy, so that I can live a long healthy life.

Thank you I’m finding it very helpful on the forums I’m 61 my husband passed away 18 months ago so I let my diabetes get out of hand until a month ago when I had a checkup and found my blood sugars were sky high I’m working really hard to get my levels down I walk every evening with my two lovely poodles and watch my carbs I’m down from 18. to 6.8 in the morning and 5.8 at bedtime I’ve stop 40mg Gliclazide and just taking 1000mg twice daily Sukkarto
