Read the forum @ianf0ster thoroughly. In summary, eat meat, eat fat, eat chicken, no rice, no bread, no pasta

    Hundreds of alternate options

The "guidelines" to which you refer are useless as they don't reflect today's reality

    Good day ladies and gentlemen,
My name is Denis and I AM a Canadian. On Monday of this week, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes although I have suspected I had the issue for at least five years. Currently I am 71 years old and apart from the diabetes hiccup, I am in good health and remain very active. My 5;8" frame weighs in at 140lbs. Although my distance running days are well and truly behind me, I power walk 3 to 5 miles a day and work out in the gym every other days.
Perhaps the reason I ignored the diabetic symptoms (and they were apparent) was that I was caregiver for my beautiful wife who valiantly battles cancer for 19 years. She was more important. Now, I will look after my health and my needs.
I am a writer and that is to what I devote my time to. My daughters and grandson occupy a lot of my joy.
My doctor's appointment, of course, led to tests and on Monday, my presumption of Diabetes was realized and now the game is afoot to at least control it although I expect to send it into remission. I am delighted to be a part of this Forum now. It will guide me as it guides the rest of the members.
I think perhaps the minor positive in all of this is that it has distracted my attention from a deep ache at the loss of my wife. She fought cancer with a strength of a thousand and I will fight Diabetes following her example.
Fortunately, in Canada, I can access the best in British dramas and comedies from which I get great pleasure.
    That is about it, really.
I hope everyone has a great balance of the day.
    Cheers

Hi @Silverback-381 And welcome to the forum. I am sorry to hear of the loss of your wife, she sounds like she was one fine lady. Your family will be a great help to you, I'm sure.

As to the diabetes I am the same age, height and weight as you, I was Dx'd with Pre diabetes nearly three years ago. With the help from others on here, you will be able to keep the diabetes in check, as I have, they are a very knowledgeable bunch.
Good luck in your fight, you will win!!

Hi @andy999 that rediagnosis must have been a shock. You might want to update your profile to reflect it so that if you ask questions then people know how to tailor their responses.

    - Include a photo here if you wish to.
<- Look at my profile, that's my real life photo (from last summer 2018).

    - What is your name?
    Rhonda Dee.

    - How old are you?
I turn 50 in September, so for now I am 49. I'm just starting to get grey hairs!

    - Are you male or female?
    I'm female.

    - Which country are you from?
    United States of America.

    - Which city/area do you live in?
Ventura County, California. Just north of Los Angeles (about 45 mins).

    - Are you religious?
    No, but I am spiritual.

    - Pick three words to describe your personality.
    Nice. Friendly. Peaceful.

    - Do you have any pets?
No. I'm not allowed pets where I live.

    - Microsoft or Apple?
Both. Microsoft at work & home, but.... I do own both a MacBook Air & i-phone X.

    - Which sport(s) (if any) do you like/play?
    Swimming, Running, Surfing.

    - Do you get angry easily?
No, I don't like to fight, and I love peace and tranquility.

    - Do you have any tattoos or piercings? If so, where?
No tattoos. Piercings only in my ears.

    - List your five favourite musicians/bands.
I can't because I love way too many. I can't chose a favorite. I love to listen to all kinds of music.
Examples of some I love: Nora Jones, Amethystium, Enya, Enigma, OceanLab, Diana Krall, Ray Charles, Bon Iver, Simon & Garfunkle, John Lennon, David Bowie, Glass Animals, Delerium, Brian Eno, Ravi Shankar.
But I love Dubstep, Dance Techno, Jazz, Rock, Oldies, New Age, Classical, etc.

    - What would you say your favourite music genre is?
Hmmm.... that's so hard for me. I love so many. I mean, I just love music in general.

    - What is your favourite flag?
One with a pot leaf on it, If there is such a flag. Otherwise the Jolly Roger.

    - Ever gone camping?
All the time, ever since I was a little wee one.

    - Ever been in love?
I'm always in love... so yes... and yes and yes!

    - Ever used fake tan?
Oh god, that was a big mistake, yes.

    - Which countries have you visited?
Besides the USA & US Territories like Guam; Canada, England, Wales.

    - Favourite city?
    Los Angeles, California.

    - List your five favourite TV programmes.
All the True-Crime Cable shows on Investigation Discovery.

    - List your five favourite films.
Hmmm... I really suck at having to chose a favorite anything, I'm sorry. I'm an INFP. But here are some of my favorite movies:
You've Got Mail. The Fugitive. Unlawful Entry. Victor Victoria. Shawshank Redemption.

    - Are you wealthy?
Compared to people in some countries I am very wealthy. But, for a US Citizen, living in California, I barely make enough to afford to live here. I would say I am not wealthy, and I am fine with that. But again, compared to some people in some countries, I am super wealthy.

    - Do you work? If so, as what?
Yes, I work in the IT department at a college, and I love my job. I work as the administrative assistant to the director of IT, plus I am the campus webmaster, plus, I troubleshoot technical issues. They call me the gatekeeper, I answer all the incoming IT calls and solve problems, if I have to escalate the call to a specialist I will but my job is to keep the call load down so the specialists can do other things, therefore I am kind of the shield for the IT department. If I can't solve it, I'll find the answer!

    - List the subjects you study/have studied.
I have a bachelors in Psychology, I have three Associates Degrees in: Sociology, Humanities & Holistic Health. I studied Oracle Database Administration & Design for 2 years and have my certifications in that also. I also love to study for fun, everything in the metaphysical sciences as well as eastern religions.

    - What do you like most about yourself?
Everything. Physical: I love my hair, my smile, my eyes, my legs and my feet. Personality: I love that I am open-minded, friendly and very curious! I love my spirituality, and positive attitude and the fact that I love myself and love others around me, and genuinely love life.

    - What do you like least about yourself?
That I have indulged myself so much that now I am pre-diabetic, but I forgive myself, I am human, and I am a foodie. I will do my best to overcome this, and learn as much as I can about eating healthy, so that I can live a long healthy life.
