Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hi my name is Audrey (Aud to friends
). I have been a T1D for almost 48 years and can't wait for any suitable solutions to reducing insulin injections. I love it when doctors discuss moving sites believe me when I say after 48 years you run out of places

Hi @Aud French (I hope we will be allowed to call you Aud) and welcome to the forums. After 52 years of T1 I can relate to your injection sites issue but I would also say that the treatments now available for T1 are fantastic compared to when we were both first diagnosed.

Hello, I'm Sue. I was diagnosed as a Type 2 diabetic over 8 years ago. My medication has gradually increased over time - metformin at first, and now Sukkarto and Empagliflozin. Plus I've been injecting a semaglutide once a week since September.

I began a low-carb diet this week and have started testing my blood sugar levels today. Any advice going forward?

It's nice to be here. Just wish I'd joined years ago!

Good evening I joined here in october 2016 when I had just been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 I was shocked and very frightened had tremendous help and advice so much that I was able to reverse my diabetes back to Prediabetes my last post was in April 2019 due to lots of unforseen circumstances in the next three years I had more CT scans than a suitcase at Heathrow airportthey were all clear thank God and because of the lock down never saw a Doctor or Diabetic Nurse until this year in July ,from January this year owing to a couldn't care less stupid attitude and at a fit 77 year old I decided that I was fed up not eating some of my favourite food for 6 years so I started eating sausage rolls,a few biscuits ,choc ices when it was hot ,custard not every day but a couple of times a weekwent for my first yearly review on July 13th for 3 years and my Ha1bc was 55 ,so now I am back on my diet of egg on toast for breakfast at 7am /lunch at 12 midday a snack at 3pm raspberry sandwich on Nimble bread and cheese on toast at 5pm I have nothing to eat untill 7 am the next morning (14 hours fasting ) my fasting reading every morning is 5.2 the last 40 days ,after breakfast I walk across country 4 miles and when I take my BG reading it ranges from 4.9 to 5.2 The pharmacist phoned me up with my Blood test results (not a doctor as I haven't seen a doctor for almost 3 years and he was quite critical that I had put 7 lb of weight on and said he would test me again in 3 months and if my BG had not improved he would put me on Metformin and statins ,I then said he can forget that I will get back to better figures with diet and exercise well that's about it for now hopw I haven't bored you to much,I have already lost 7kg in 7 weeks and the way the Pharacist went on at me was disgusting to say the least, not to worry I will show him

Welcome wiseowl.
That daily diet would be far too carb heavy for most of us.
Could you look at increasing protein, green veg and dairy and cut out the bread?

Good morning @MrsA2 my friend I only have 4 small slices of Nimble bread a day which amounts to 32g of carbs with respect we are all different and I do a an awful lot of exercise and I soon burn the carbs off ,my carb count I keep to 60g to 80g a day and my BG is kept at 5.2 most of the time, how many carbs a day would you say that most people on this forum adhere to,when you consider that I used to eat over 200g a day I think I am doing quite well

I week ago or so, I got diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. My fasting blood sugar came out to be 150, and my HbA1C read 8.5. It was quite a shock for me at first, as no one in my family tree has diabetes. But, as things settled down, I realized that I am here because I am overweight. The doctor has prescribed metformin er, but I am not sure if I should take it. I have read and been told that If you go down that road, it's hard to come out of it. They rather suggest reducing weight and working on diet. Can you all please suggest me a way out of this dilemma?

Thank you!

Regards,
Krishen

It's easy to come off metformin. I did. waited until my bloods were in the right readings, came off one (I was on 2 a day) then after a month of good readings, stopped the other. Now I am diet-controlled only.

Thank you for your message, Outlier. That certainly was encouraging. May I ask you the kind of diet you followed? Also, Is Fasting allowed?

I was and continue to follow a keto diet, and I fast for 18-20 hours a day. I never actually meant to fast, but I don't eat until I'm hungry, so have brunch and an evening meal. Keto did away with the awful hunger I had when eating carbs and sugars, even though they were "healthy" carbs and sugars. I do still get hungry but it's a different sort of hungry.
