Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Hello! I'm Courtney, and I've been a type 1 diabetic for the last 14 years. I joined this forum looking for support as I've just recieved news that I have background retinopathy, and I'm looking for support to cheer me up and stop myself from spiralling. :') I used to be on injections x4 daily (x3 novarapid, x1 levirmir) but after recently switching to the keto diet, my GP and I have discussed lowering my doses as my glucose levels especially keep dropping. I know no other diabetics, and my journey so far has had its ups and downs (especially whilst I was at university).

Hi all, My name is Maryan. I was born and raised in Macedonia. Macedonia is a small country located on the balkan peninsula. I came to England in 2016. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 17 years old. Since then I am treating diabetes with insulin. I love football, I was playing football when I was young but not anymore since my knee injury. Anyway I am here to share experiences and to have fun.

I live in Oxfordshire, I am in my early 40’s. My favourite countries are Italy and Spain. I love reading and going to the theatre. I wish I was wealthy but I am not. I work in education.

My name is Winnifred1.
I have just joined the Forum. My blood sugars became uncontrollable after a change in medication. I am in shock and desperate to get them in control again.

Starting today I am going to attempt the 800 calories per day for a week to try and kick start the process.
Any advice is welcome.
T2 diabetes, controlled through diet and exercise for 3 years, meds for 2 years. Thanks
 
HI I'm Tracey, I'm 61 and a support worker, I have been diagnosed Type 2 about 6wks. All this came to light after a heart attack in June 22... I have changed my lifestyle alot. My diet was always farely healthy but it still got me. My older brother is Type 2 and another one has heart problems. So I get both but it doesn't stop me enjoying life... I am trying to get my head around what not to eat, I know carbs are one thing but need to know if there is a book or Web site that I can get information or recipes.

I'm waiting on my second HBA1C to confirm T2. First blood test was 50 but I've just been on steroids so could be down to that. Previously it was 48. I've not been able to be good with my diet. I'm allergic to nuts and have various food intolerances so changing things is difficult. I'm also addicted to sugar but so far have gone a few days without any. I expect cravings to kick in soon! I'm trying to cut out white carbs and eat better but I'm SO hungry so quickly all the time. How do people do it???

Are you replacing the lost calories from dropping carbs by something else? Bacon and eggs, full fat Greek yoghurt, fatty cuts of meat or fish, cheese, all very filling!

Hello My name is Robert and my father-in-law to be has been recently diagnosed with type two diabetes. Last Christmas his wife became too unwell to stay at home due rapid onset of dementia. Since then he has learned to do many things for himself. He is active but overweight, and has only used a microwave to re-heat meals - which since January have been provided by meals on wheels. He has recently started showing interest in learning to do some small amounts of cooking - as he has never done any before. I currently live a fair distance away from my father in-law and we have been looking at starting with simple soups in a soup maker but that is as far as we have got. My partner and I are spending a week with him over Christmas and hope to give him a reasonable soup maker and appropriate recipe book and work through some with him. But I do not know where to start with this.

A little about myself - I am registered disabled due a combination of physical and mental health reasons, I am an active volunteer promoting Mental Health in Lincolnshire and Talking at the University of Lincoln and the new Medical School, as well as sat several well-being shows. I have not long past my half century and thought after many troubles in my life that I would never find someone who would love me for me - I have found that person now.
