Hello I've recently started to struggle with sugar since Ozempic has become hard to source. Before then my sugar was well controlled at 52 HBA1C now my readings are double figures and I need to get them sorted fast so thought I'd use the offer n join up hopefully it will help get back on track maybe even lose some weight.

Hello I am from Glasgow, Scotland, UK. My main passions are reading, writing, and Doctor Who. I'm also a massive fan of Lord of the rings, tattoos, and I'm a collector of buttons, rocks, and knowledge. I also appear to be a collector of conditions - autism, ADHD, dyspraxia, polycystic ovaries, possible hypermobility, bit of anxiety and depression and now diabetes!
I'm hoping to increase my knowledge a bit more and add to my already large document of tips, tricks, recipes and food related info. And to support others on their journeys too if I can.
I'm hoping this is a kind place because I've had my fill of nasty humans right now!

On looking up dyspraxia think I suffered that a bit after brain trauma I discovered Daniel Radcliffe has it. Considering we are all in the boat of dealing with some hefty invisible illnesses these days. It never ceases to amaze me how nasty some folk can be :( Hope you find what you need help wise. Have a great day PS love Scotland such a beautiful place.

Thank you for your lovely response. I didn't know that about Daniel Radcliffe, I never hear people talk about dyspraxia but there's probably a lot of 'clumsy' people who actually have it. I'm really not much of a fan of people but I know there are good ones out there :)

Hi, my name is Karen. But nobody uses this apart from official bodies. I am 63, but people keep telling me I don’t look it.
the vain part of me, quite likes this.
But it will catch up at sometime!
I have a very old rabbit called Pepper, she is 10 1/2 years old.
I am married, to the most wonderful man for 20 years and live in the countryside.
We have two children.
I live in the UK
I work part time in an office, as part of an administrative team. Nice bunch of people.
I have never camped in my life, and am not about to even consider it! I love hotel breaks, doesn’t have to be posh, just nice and clean.
I like going abroad, but am not well travelled.
I do like walking, but can be lazy.
We are not rich, but are generally very happy.

I am a reasonably happy person, but seem to anger quite quickly these day, but also started menopause late.
and
I found out that I have Type 2 in April 2023, and am not getting to grips with it very well. So thought this group might be able to help?

Hi @Mactruffy
Welcome aboard
I have never camped in my life, and am not about to even consider it!
Your comment made me smile. If anyone suggests camping to me my response is always "I don't sleep anywhere I can't plug in and flush"
You've found a friendly community here with a wealth of knowledge and support.
Good luck

Dear all,

I have just become a member of this great community and I am very grateful for your support. My name is Andrew and I live in Leeds. I have suffered from diabetes type 2 since 2002. I have also been diagnosed with a diabetic neuropathy in my feet in September this year. It has been a struggle all these years. I have lived abroad for 5 years and I had my diabetes reversed meaning I haven’t been taking any medications. I have lost 43 kg by dieting and exercising whilst living abroad. After returning back to UK it has been 14 years now I have been given more medication and now in this recent diagnosis I am loosing faith in medicine. It is all just a preventative measure never a cure of such. Anyway I like to read mainly non fiction books, history research, science and psychology. It is not my profession but I like to keep my mind occupied. Also I love spending time in North Yorkshire and by going abroad as well as. I love going to theatre, music festivals, museums. I am a Christian and I practice my religious beliefs regularly and also I respect other beliefs.

I do not have diabetes
Hi - I have just joined the forum. I have been diagnosed with prediabetes. I am 76 and very overweight (127 kg). In 2021 my blood test revealed Hb1ac of 40, now in 2023 the figure is 47 although my weight was the same. I am being put on the Oviva programme - haven't yet really understood it - meanwhile I have been doing Zoe Nutrition on which I neither lost nor gained weight. But I am inclined to try to adjust my behaviour on Zoe, so smaller portions, less fat, possibly less fruit and see how it goes, rather than following the Eatwell Guide on Oviva and doing things like reporting my mood every day (choice of 5 faces from glum to cheerful) - where I would finish up logging everything on two different systems. They want me to send in photos of my meals, which is tempting me to take silly photos. Anyway, that was my motivation to come here, this forum was highly recommended on a Facebook group run by Zoe users. I've got to make up my mind how I proceed. I'm looking forward to reading about prediabetes here.

My Dr had ne on Gliclazide and I ballooned. The diabetic expert program and clinic at hospital took me off it and put me Farxiga. I lost over a stone in 3mths. When I next saw my Dr he said I'm glad your off the gliclazude that's a weight gainer no good for you!! I swear there are days I despair. I want to come off the Farxiga peeing every 40 mins is not anyway to live I'm a landscape photographer. And I csnt get out with my camera no loos in the wilds buy its a battle with him to change neds as he says they are working and I guess between 48 n 54 I'm stable ish however if I could get out walking for an hour or two a day ud lose more weight n be more stable I'm sure. Though I also have Endometriosis Poly Cystic Ovaries, Chronic Fstigue, Metabolic Syndrome and Fibromyalgia all Weight gaining health issues then add in a busted back n neck issue exercise is a bit tricky but walking or swimming I could do uf I wasn't needing the loo all the time! I'm not convinced GPs are as clued up as they could be on diabetes pushing to see specialists might be your answer especially as you were doing so well overseas. Was your diet n exercise routine better when you lived abroad do you think? Have a good weekend

Evening all

It's about time I dived in and answered some questions but, before I do, I want to tell you how grateful I feel to members of this forum. The mutual and collective support you have given to me and to each other is inspirational.
What a fantastic community we have here!

Include a photo here if you wish.
Apparently, my file is too large. I won’t take it personally.

What is your name?
My nom de plume is LivingLightly, but you can call me Liv.

How old are you?
21 again

Are you male or female?
Yes.

Which country are you from?
England, but have lived and worked in the USA.

Which city/area do you live in?
London

Are you religious?
Only about cooking our meals from scratch.

Pick three words to describe your personality.
Tries her best.

Do you have any pets?
Not now. We were once adopted by four rescue Siamese cats; Simba (lilac-point), Sasha (blue-point), Sheba (seal-point) and Suki Na, or Suki for short (chocolate-point). Same litter, but very different personalities. They were like little people really.

Microsoft or Apple?
Hmmm .... pass.

Which sport(s) (if any) do you like/play?
Enjoyed tennis, especially doubles, until I developed adhesive capsulitis, also known as 'frozen' shoulder and was forced to hang up my racket. Him outdoors still plays every once in a while. Table tennis is about my limit now.
Mind you, when it comes to sleeping, I'm Olympic level.

Do you get angry easily?
Only when watching PMQs.

Do you have any tattoos or piercings? If so, where?
Ear lobe piercings for earring comfort.

List your five favourite musicians/bands.
Only five? Okay, in alphabetical order:
Vladimir Ashkenazy
Danny Driver
Rachel Podger
Birgit Nilsson
Andreas Scholl

What would you say your favourite music genre is?
I lean towards classical; I have an eclectic approach to music, everything from Bingen to Bingham.

What is your favourite flag?
Depends which country I'm in and who's asking.

Ever gone camping?
Yes, even enjoyed it.

Ever been in love?
Yes, once upon various times, enjoyed that too.

Ever used fake tan?
No, I prefer my natural complexion. You may say 'pasty', I prefer 'fair' myself.

Which countries have you visited?
On meeting overseas visitors here in London, I was fascinated by their language, culture and national dress. I seized every opportunity that came my way to accept invitations and I’ve been fortunate to have travelled extensively, mostly on a shoestring backpacking. These days, I value my creature comforts.

Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Jersey, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Monaco, Spain, Andorra, Portugal, Gibraltar, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Poland, Estonia, Russia, Belarus, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Iraq, Iran, Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Canada, USA, Mexico, Costa Rica, Antigua & Barbuda, Brazil, Peru, Argentina and Uruguay.

Favourite city?
Brighton. I'm also quite fond of the one I live in.
Loved Lahaina, Maui. Heartbreaking to see it reduced to rubble recently by Hurricane Dora

List your five favourite TV programmes.
Wildlife documentaries narrated by David Attenborough
Seasonwatch presented by Chris Packham and Megan McCubbin
Wildlife programmes with commentary by Lolo Williams
Dateline London chaired by Shaun Ley
Blackadder, Fawlty Towers

List your five favourite films.
Not a film buff. Prefer books.

Are you wealthy?
Capital rich, income poor, I'd say. I scrape by on pensions. Then again, I have everything I've ever wanted and time to pursue my interests, so perhaps I am, if not financially.

Do you work? If so, as what?
I'm retired, but volunteer for various charities and our local nature reserve.

List the subjects you study/have studied.
Biological sciences, entomology, palaeobotany, European languages.
I have a keen interest in natural history and organic gardening.
Play the piano sometimes to relax. (Anything but relaxing for those listening).

What do you like most about yourself?
I have an enquiring mind and I'm still learning.

What do you like least about yourself?
Put it this way, you wouldn't want to see photos of my toenails.

Hi @Tangent66 ,

It might be worth starting a new thread with your questions, this thread is mainly for introducing ourselves, so You'll likely get more replies if you post a new thread.
To do so, go to 'forums' (top left), choose a forum you'd like to post in, and click the 'post thread' button (top right).
I'd like to change drugs to one that doesn't pee sugar out the body
Have you tried dietary changes?
Many of our members have found their diabetes is much better controlled on a low carb way of eating.
If you're interested, I think you'll find this piece, written by one of our members very informative: https://josekalsbeek.blogspot.com/2019/11/the-nutritional-thingy.html
