Introduce Yourself: Answer Some Personal Questions

Many of us have greatly reduced our hba1c with the help of eating a low carb diet, which doesn't follow current NHS advice. Are you open to trying it while we wait for the establishment (nhs) to catch up? All voluntary of course.
 
Hi Vivien this is rather a daunting place to be I know but the help on this site in only 24 hours i reassuring.
I myself am only pre-diabetic but the impacts of it is a steep learning curve but it's doable.

hi my name is stephen and i had a heart attack 4 years ago and then they told me i have type 2,but i feel same as before lol. i don't know if it was of the heart attack or what. i take metformin which i hate cos it makes me pee a lot and i mean a lot,i have no personal life and can hardly go out or do shopping with my wife or go for a drive cos i pee to much,gona ask doctor to replace it. i am 65 and i work in security industry for past 39 years and work shifts. i also inject myself with insulin and further have a abnormal life because all the pee keeps me at home. hope you guys have a terrific day. i am from south africa and stay in a beautiful place called cape town close to the beach. Hi! I'm Beth, just recently moved from New York to Nevada USA. I was diagnosed with prediabetes about a year ago, though I have had undiagnosed neuropathy for many years, for reasons. I'm still setting up with my new health plan here; hopefully quality of care will be decent! I tried metformin, which was tolerable at first, but after several months made life miserable. Right now, I'm only taking metoprolol and trying to reduce my carbs. Once the heat here drops below 100F I may consider evening walks again to lose weight! I'm thinking, too, about glucose testing, but I feel like I need more education before taking the leap.

Other than that, my hobbies are computer games, quilting, reading, and gardening. I'm getting ready to self-publish a tabletop roleplaying game book (for D&D 5E) in a few months on Kickstarter! I'm grateful to see these forums and all the lived experience and compassion. Thanks to everyone for your advice.
 
I am Steve Williams. Not sure what the question is I’m replying to? I have recently been diagnosed with Hyperglycemia. My Dr thinks I’m Diabetic and am now taking Metformin. I am a TSC1/2 patient and am down to one kidney. My kidney is lucky to have two tumours. I am roughly 3kg lighter than I was 3 months ago! I am anaphylactic to caramelised sugars!!! Don’t understand how that works with diabetes. When first diagnosed I went to Dr because I thought I had a UTI. It turns out that my glucose levels in urine were ‘off the scale’ according to the Dr. Hence blood tests and Metformin (4 per day). Coping ok on the Metformin. Concerned I may have renal neuropathy. Not being checked for that (as far as I know). Typically blood sugars are stable at around 9-11 but have been as high as 23.9. Modified my diet a little (not much). Don’t drink, never smoked, overweight but that’s dropping and I’m a male aged 65. If you need more, ask away

Diagnosed with Type 2 around 11
years ago. Taking Metformin. Was controlling my diabetes to the point I thought I’d reversed it. Exercising a lot, and pretty much eating what I wanted.

Lately I’ve been struggling with the joints in my hands and diagnosed with a cyst on my spine. Put off my diabetic reviews, and have, for nearly a year led a sedentary lifestyle.

Blood results for my Hba1c came back today. Diabetic nurse appointment on Monday morning first thing. I’m pretty certain given my weight gain and change of lifestyle the news is not going to be good.

So, here I am, ready for a complete change in lifestyle. Hopefully, this site and forum will help with that.

Determined to get back to where I was.
