Hello, new here and blood test shows I'm pre-diabetic - yet normal for my age. I'm not yet 60 y/o. No meds but my work and daily commute is very stressful and demanding. I've also had a lot of chronic stress over the past few years and have heard that this can increase blood sugar levels (?).

I don't drink fizzy pop; I don't eat crisps; I might eat a pizza or burger once a fortnight; bread and a small cake every other day, about 2-3 spoonfuls of cereal in the morning (5am) and like an average size bar of chocolate maybe 2-3 times a week. I don't have sugar in coffee but maybe 1/3 teaspoon molasses sugar in tea. I eat a portion of vegetables every day and stick (mainly) to apples or 1-2 bananas a week. I love my cheese and dry wine. I don't drink ale, lager or cider

So I'm not shoving loads of junk food down my throat and the nature of my work and commute means I don't get a good walk every day

I joined the forum following a link to free cookbooks, having (hopefully finally) accepted that I cannot rely on pills to manage my Type 2 diabetes (diagnosed 3 years ago), but that I also need to make some significant lifestyle changes (which will be hard since one of my main pleasures since I was small has been preparing and eating good food in large quantities.

Living in Ireland, diabetic, who knows LADA1.5 maybe. High glucose levels monitored with a CGM, on a strict keto diet, 76, not feeling great, neuropathy clicking in, eyes blurred, meh! Health care here hopeless, doctors here are just glorified drug pushers. I had to tell my doctor that jardiance (good for your heart) was unwise on a strict keto diet. The advice on diet is the infamous food pyramid, cholesterol is bad, saturated fats are bad, statins are wonderful. Never been to a diabetic clinic, never seen a diabetic nurse, waiting lists here are anything between one and two years even if you pay. Total **** show, am on my own, that is why I have joined this group to get help and advice!

C-peptide test, even fasting insulin, have to go through a consultant! How long does it take to see a consultant! Ha,ha how long is a piece of string! As for GAD antibodies, well maybe when I am dead. Ordinary GP’s cannot order these.
Interestingly there is a private walk in phlebotomy clinic who will do the first two.
Do not need a doctors referral. Told my doctor and said he could not accept the results!

The results might not be acceptable, but could be enough grounds for a referral to an endo for an official do-over?

Interesting and thanks. In a perfect world, at 76 time is not on my side, two years waiting for a consultant who would probably just repeat the tests as they do, makes me feel very depressed. No diabetic expert or nurse has never seen me. I get my eyes checked in Specsavers to do a detailed but not official diabetic test.
