Hi I’m Andi. I’m a 59 year old single female living in the US. Currently I’m in Corsicana Texas. I’m up north, not down south near the Gulf of Mexico. Too crazy for me; hurricanes take out their houses a lot. I lived in Southern California for 30 years. I’m a beach girl. I was raised in New Jersey and I left because I don’t like snow. I spent a decade in Florida. Near the beach, of course. Tropical storms are amazing. Sometimes it looks like there’s a battle going on in heaven. I have family in Texas who moved here from California. It wasn’t until I got here that I realized that I’m land locked. That’s really strange for me.

I visited Mexico, a few times, Romania, and the Caribbean. I love the Caribbean.
I’d love to visit Hawaii.

I live with a 5 year-old cat who thinks she’s the boss and I lost my 15-year-old toy poodle last year. I also lost the bookkeeping job I’ve had for 20 years and I’ve been out of work for 2 months. That’s been interesting.

After 44 years of working, the government doesn’t think I deserve unemployment benefits. Don’t get me started on the US government.

Microsoft for computers, Apple for cell phone. I have an iPad, but I don’t care for it and I’ve had an Apple computer and didn’t care for that either. It could be because I’ve been on Microsoft computers most of my life.

I have 7 tattoos, I prefer tattoos over jewelry, and I own no jewelry.

Am I wealthy? On paper, no. I have $720 in the bank, I own no stocks or property, I live in a 550 square-foot apartment, and everything I own fits in it. Well, except the car. And that’s little too. I like small spaces.

I have a roof over my head, food on the table, a bathroom, and electricity. I have friends and family who love me and I’m relatively healthy. We don’t have public transportation in this small town so I own a car. I prefer a horse and buggy but it’s not practical. Yes, I would say I’m very wealthy.

5 favorite films: Aloha. The end, at the hula school, gets me every time. All Jane Austen films, Charles Dickens films, and Elizabeth Gaskell films. I love period dramas.

I’ve studied Business and Theology. I’m a Bible girl.

This month I found out I have type 2 diabetes. And my cholesterol is high. I was pre-diabetic in August.

I hate fish, I don’t care for meat, and vegetables give me a belly ache. So, I’ve been living on dairy and fruit. I was eating a pomegranate every day. I never thought to look at the sugar content. Spoiler alert…. it’s high. I’ve cut out the high fat dairy, switched to low fat, and broke up with pomegranates.

So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Advice would be appreciated. How will I get enough protein and fiber? Still have to figure that out.

Hi all,I’m new to forum, I’m Kat, 63 think I’m heading for type 2 , waking read 6.7 , had been feeling q ill, on walks total wipeout sometimes, almost collapse, frustrating for me as I retired with my husband to walk in Anglesey area where we’ve lived for 7 years now. So I’m open to any tips to lower my BS reads! Monitoring currently new to the machine ( husband roy does the needle bit for me) then have to test whilst in middle of a doo see how low BS goes ,so waiting for next one! They can be intermittent & to be honest I’ve had these doos for years , I will be seeing practice nurse again. Feel upset and confused as have always avoided cakes, biscuits , sweets, do need to loose weight I know that though. Big confusion is what should I be eating? Older lady, need lower weight , lower BS reads to avoid those horrid weak ‘doos’And general unwellness , I know to take something out in my pocket , nuts or glucose on a walk , after a rest 20 mins I return to normal . Any help welcome

I just joined today. My name is Gavin, 56 years old. I live in Gloucester. I work in an ice cream factory, making Magnum, Cornetto etc so I wont be eating any of that anymore.
I have been told I am pre diabetes 20 days ago, so I am trying to change my diet and drinking at the pub. I have arthritis. I have my liver tested every 3 months for it, so that is how I found out about the potential type 2 diabetes.
I like walking, so intend to step up, as I need to lose about 2 stone, so hopefully I will beat it.

Hi! Gill here! Type 2 diabetic for 25 years! Started diet only, then metformin, then insulin and metformin! Always been a bit of a struggle keeping my bloods down as I am a massive fan of food!!! I recently started using the Freestyle Libre monitor and am finding it amazing learning how food affects sugars!! Due to other health issues, exercise is a problem at the moment. Now that Christmas and my wedding anniversary is over with (28 years!), I can concentrate on seeing what food is worse and better for me (yes, I have had many conversations with dieticians!) And hopefully still have some of the food I love but in better ways!!! Hoping being on here also helps!!!!
