My name is Ruth. I'm not IT savvy enough to copy all the questions and answer them!
I have been on the edge of diabetes for a few yrs and fell off the cliff/was diagnosed T2 about a year ago.
My husband had diabetes and through bad management (his own & medics) developed major complications inc neuropahty, amputation of toes and other leg below knee, retinopathy , kidney problems etc etc. Went to meet his maker 6yrs ago.
You'd think I would have heeded the warnings, but ............. any way here I am having just found this forum.
I'm wanting to follow the Newcastle diet or similar but having trouble persuading the medics who put me straight on to metformin even though I was only just over the cut off point when first diagnosed. Also they are pushing me VERY hard to take statins, but I'm refusing. (Cholesterol 5.6 but bad ratio of "good/bad").
I'm a creative person, love painting, crafts, singing etc. None of which are particularly physical, so I'm trying to up my exercise.
I'm a Christian, ( faith filled NOT religeous) and I try to live my life according to God's rules for living.
I enjoy life as much as I can and want to do so as long as possible!
Hi Angela , I to am T2 and have hpers , My Name is Doris Marie , very nice to meet you , I am 47 years old , live sin Dartmouth Nova Scotia Canada , My whole Family are diabetics , either type 1 or type 2 and some of us have High Cholestrols too , I currently take 5 medformins a day , along with Glizicide and a water pill + Crestor for cholestrol , my sugars go low alot and when they do i get the shakes sometimes , sometimes i get very cold and fatique , totally drained of energy . sometime smy medication makes me a little nausiated or queasy or it give sme the diahreaha or constipates me , but thats not unusual with these meds . My Diabetes is controlled with diet and medications , recently I haven't been watching closely and its drove my readings and Cholestrol and even blood pressue out of control , I never really gave it much though before that this is a serious disease and there is no cure and i never kept tract of my readings so much , I ate what ever i desired and now i am faced with the consequences , for almost 2 weeks now i have been watching my diet, keeping track of my readings and taking my meds regularlly and my readings are getting back to normal and i am starting to feel much better , had blood work done and cholestrols and extremely high so my doctor increased the dosage by doubling the mg's . I guess this is my wake up call and i'm finally rising up and taking control of my disease and my life . My diet consists of low carbs , high fiber , low fat , no salt and i changed my sugar to organic sweetener . I am also drinking lots of water and 3 glasses of metamucil a day which will also help lower cholestrol . I have joined a few sites that have recipes to help out and foods to have and those to avoid , I had an appointment with my pharmacist / diabetes Nutricionist who went ove rmy meds with me , gave me some info to bring home and helped me chose better foods to control my illness . I get out and walk when i can as i also suffer from Arthritis so some days too sore to take that walk , but i am finally taking control of my life and not letting it control me .hi im angela diagnosed a while ago now type 2
