Hi all,
I have now reached the heady anniversary of 10 days since my 'official' diagnosis of T2DM

. I'm still in the anger, confused, why me mode, despite looking in a full length mirror to see a fat f*ck, completely stressed out individual that has ignored the signs for some time. Anyway I'll deal with that!
I have known, self diagnosed, for some time as a health care professional, but lived in denial and anger. I previously trained as a semi professional athlete and spent my time running across deserts, the arctic, jungles and generally really mad sh*t

but following a major life changing injury in a road traffic accident I have gone to seed using pain, injury and disability as an excuse.
I had to see my GP a couple of weeks ago for annual med' review and finally grew some balls, explained my concerns and symptoms and asked for a Hb1ac.... 112mmol/mol (11.2%). Well done me!

So it's time for me to face the music...
Current state and plans:

Monitoring: Whist T2DM and arguably not required to monitor blood sugars as mine are so high and I have a brain that respond to data I am monitoring response to changes to diet and treatment using a Libre-2 sensor.
Meds: Started metformin. Plan is for OD for week, then BD for week, and then TDS for week and then review with GP. Ahead of the curve and now on TDS
@DAY 10. Blood sugar variability settling but average remains way beyond acceptable level (so far the average has dropped by 2mmol
Next Reviews: Diabetes Specialist Nurse a week on Monday. I have spoke to her on the phone and quite impressed and then GP review 2 days later. I suspect mono therapy won't be enough initially but I am happy to discuss with the team. Whilst I wish to keep polypharmacy down, I am happy to use what required in the hope they can be reduced or removed in future. I want cardiovascular and renal protection from the start, and then hopefully get my life sorted and off the drugs!
So that's me
