Hi MAC73,
Yes, food, especially "Carbohydrates", are the primary thing which we Diabetics obsess over.
But always remember, especially when hunger hit, EAT ANIMAL!
We Diabetics have medical 'permission' to, in a sense, eat all the protein we wish, whenever we wish, wherever we wish.
Also, remember that Carbs in of themselves are not off-limits.
Learn the True, Real, difference between actual 'Whole' grains, and 'Entire' grains.
If the grains in a food are ground or otherwise physically processed, they cease to be actual Whole Grains. Even if, the entire grain is included.
-- This is of HUGE importance because if a grain is intact, Whole, it requires more, more work, more effort, by our bodies to process it into sugar.
The Entirety of a grain, once no longer intact, Whole, is much simpler for our bodies to process into sugar.
Here in the United States, in Oregon State, right near Portland, there is a company: Bob's Red Mill. Bob's Red Mill, makes a great many wonderful products, for we Diabetics, their best product is the: "10 Grain Hot Breakfast Cereal"
Just boil & eat. I like it with a 1 Tablespoon, or more, of baking Cream Cheese, and 1 Tablespoon of Peanut Butter.
So you see, it is possible for we Diabetics to fill our bellies with COMPLEX Carbs. As well as all the 'Animal' we want. Meat, Fish, Chicken, and Animal protien products.
Yepp, we get to learn to Track, first Carbohydrate consumption, then Protien, Fats, Sodium and more.
We get to learn how our Diabetes affects the specific health of our body and organs.
It can actually be fun!
Just remember, Yes - Lower your Carbs (Minimize Simple Carbs!), but do not illiminate COMPLEX Carbs.
Hungry? First Protein, then Complex Carbs, then High Fiber. This is the order in which EVERY Human should eat.
Being Diabetic.....it just means we have THAT much more reason to eat healthy and behave actively.
If your hungry, it's ok to eat. Just learn how to eat as a Diabetic should, also known as eating a properly Healthy diet.
Feeling lethargic, especially right after eating?
Get out of the house and go for a walk! Help your cells consume the influx of fuel, aka glucose, by bring physically active, which makes your cells 'Hungry'.
Take care, have fun learning to be your own personal best Diabetic.
