Is a wee moan ok?

I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and am pretty pleased with how my blood levels are coming down. Am on Metformin, am watching carbs and have cut out my beloved chocolate biscuits. I am testing regularly, although have cut it down to 4 times per day now which I am comfortable with though if I eat something new I would test a bit more.

Here's the moan - with apologies for sounding a bit pathetic - these 6 weeks have felt like the longest time in my life. Appointments, building up the Metformin gradually and watching the clock to test or take med just make the time feel so long. Apologies to all of you who have had this for years and would have good reason to moan, but I just wondered if anyone else felt like this at first.

Thanks

Cath

Sounds to me like you have done a good job in getting to grip with your diabetes. If it helps moan as much as you like. I think that most of us would probably use much stronger words to describe our feelings and experiences during the emotional roller coaster ride that are the first weeks following diagnosis.

If it helps, after a while things do tend to settle down into a routine which one follows without thinking about much.

Best wishes

Pavlos

Hi Cath,
feel free to moan, im 10 yrs in this july and for quite a while i was pretty peed off, sadly since then ive had many more lifelong illnesses added to my list, i honestly have to say that my diabetes is my easiest illness ,it becomes second nature to you in time, you wont feel this way forever;)

Don't have a little moan, let tip with your frustrations!

hehe, moan away, i think moaning can be a great thing, folks that feel the same way may see it and think, thank god im not alone :)

You can moan as much as you like. But we charge you.
However pay for 9 moans and your 10 th moan is free.

Feel free l am always moaning but for goodness sake if you have wee while moaning wash your hands or you will never hear the end of it...esp if you go into the polar inn and have some nuts!!

The first few weeks/months are by far the worst as there's so much to take in, if you can't moan here on a diabetes forum where can you moan :)

This thread has cheered me up too! As most of u know I am two weeks into the excitement that is diabetes type 2! Sounds to me like u are doing a great job at managing things! I have very similar feelings to u. Clock watching, carb counting, finger picking and tablet taking! We are a special bunch aren't we! Lol

I was diagnosed last December and while I feel I am getting to grips with things, I also feel that my life is completely ruled by my diabetes - what I think I should be eating, telling my husband (the chief cook!) what I believe I should or shouldn't be eating, revising this, remembering to do all my (self imposed) glucose tests at the right times , appointments, blood tests, eye checks, feet checks, etc.

I'm on slightly familiar ground though as I had a serious eye problem some years back (not diabetes related though!) and at one point everything revolved around putting in eye drops every hour, and those blooming drops seemed to consist of all my life at the time. I had a little pinger/timer to remind and its hourly pings literally ruled my life...

In part I think maybe that the mechanics of dealing with this sort of major problem help you avoid obsessing too much over the shock of the illness itself?
