Is it O.K. to smoke?

Nah they know quite a lot because their the only people that I really speak too like about how I feel n things

I stopped smoking at the start of January...after many years of smoking, tried the e-cig, tried the patches...then read 'the easy way to stop smoking' by a bloke called Allen Carr...not the comedian: :D worked for me but think you have to want to stop anyway.

I mean yeah I want to stop but it will be hard as I have so much **** going on in my life right now

Read the book...he explains quite well how people use other problems in their world as an excuse to smoke...when in reality smoking doesn't actually physically or mentally alleviate other problems :) it's a good read and you smoke all the way through it...just don't make reading it last you 30 years ;)

It will be hard, but worth it.

If you carry on smoking it will just heap more **** on you later. Oh and you will have more money too.

Yeah you do have a point I mean I get it quite cheap like I'll buy from the people at our school so Only like £3.50 a pack but yeah I mean I'm not smoking as much as I use to cause my girlfriend ignores me if I have more than 1 a day!

Hang on to her.

Smoking is so bad it's like wanting to kill yourself. And you don't want that?

The longer you keep the habit up the harder it will be to quit so just do it.

Well done that girlfriend!

So, if only one a day try one less a day then. Easy!

Thanks I'm just not sure what affect it has on my diabetes

I smoked for many many years and the best thing I ever did was to give up smoking. That over 5 years now, just stopped, then went to get help, received patches and support, and especially from my 9 year old daughter. The first week was very hard, but with sheer guts and determination and lots of will power anyone can do it if they really want to.

If affects so many parts of your body, whether diabetic or not, it does limit oxygen to your body, plus the cancers as well, lung, throat and mouth.
With the money I saved when I stopped, I redecorated my child's bedroom, I was so chuffed.
We all know the risks of smoking, but it's up to the individual, plus you wont stink of smoke either and its aging too.

Good luck.

If they are selling for £3.50 a pack they could most likely be counterfeit. They are full of even more **** than the legit ones.

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis, that's the major thing about life, $h1t happens, so we have to try harder to get over it. Here's a good link to see why smoking isn't a good idea for diabetics, apart from the obvious reason why it's not a great idea for all of us.

I gave up in 1982 because I was then able to save enough money in the first year to pay for a three week trip to the U.S. Something people might do more readily these days but 1982 was a bit different, return ticket was 265 quid.

Well if you REALLY want to give up smoking I managed it 25 years ago with a little book called er, probably, How to Give up Smoking. Anyway there was a chapter on the benefits of smoking which impressed me

Chapter 5
The benefits of smoking

I finally stopped because |I had a permanently sore mouth and was afraid of getting mouth, tongue and throat cancer and having bits chopped away.

Hiya mate.
I started smoking young and thought I'd never stop simply because I enjoyed smoking.
I haven't smoked for a few years now but still occasionally fancy one.
The bad bit for anyone is it affects your circulation.
Having diabetes you want good circulation.
In fact having this disease which is what it is you want to try and get as healthy as possible in every area of your life to help control the diabetes and lessen the impact it will have on your life.
Best of luck for the future.

Well apart from the obvious smoking is bad for you (I'm a smoker) it's not thought to be good for diabetes.

Have a look here: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes-and-smoking.html

I need to try again to give up :(

Another good link here http://www.diabetes.org.uk/Guide-to-diabetes/Living_with_diabetes/Help-with-giving-up-smoking/

And e-cigs?
http://healthland.time.com/2011/03/27/why-smoking-is-a-bad-idea-for-diabetics/
"But perhaps more importantly, the results also suggest that nicotine replacement products such as patches and nicotine-containing electronic cigarettes, aren’t a safe option for diabetes patients either. Because they still contain nicotine, these products are just as likely to boost A1c levels as cigarettes are."

I would trust patches more than e-cigs because they're not usually used for as long and help you kick the habit. People I know who used e-cigs to give up have just swapped one habit for another, they say it doesn't help stop the habit of actually smoking.

Hi guys just a wee update I only had half a cig yesterday and iv just had the other half today so not going too bad c
