Is Slimming World suitable for Type 2?

Hi, I'm not really having a lot of success with the lchf diet which I'm really disappointed about. I'm a slow loser anyway but after 4 months I've only dropped about 10lbs and it's now at a standstill. I'm just wondering if SW is suitable bearing in mind they recommend pasta and rice and lots of fruit! I'm really at a loss at the moment and feel like I'm stuck in a rut on this current eating plan. Any help grateful received!

Your LCHF diet may not have helped your weight loss very much (so far) but has it helped your blood glucose levels?

If your BGs are a lot better and improving, then it is working for you and I would stick to it.

Some fasting may help with your weight loss.

I have seen my BG levels going down week by week as I have stayed away from the high carb foods - I would say don't bother paying for slimming club advice just use the money to buy chickens to roast, and strawberries and cream - far more enjoyable. I started off at 17.1 and a few days ago saw an after dinner reading of 5.9!!
OK - I did see 8.4 after eating a whole box of strawberries yesterday. I should have waited until after dinner - I know - I will next time - but they were delicious. I restricted dinner to a pork chop with nothing at all carbohydrate with it, as penance. It was delicious too.
I can resist anything but temptation.

Agree with Bluetit. If the lchf diet is reducing your sugar levels it is worth sticking to. Everyone loses weight at different rates - I'm also a slow loser and never lose weight in the dramatic way that some others do, but as long as the trend is downwards and I am eating in a way I can sustain while improving blood sugar levels, I'm happy.

Hi guys thank you so much. Yes my BG levels are great, always between 4:8 and never higher than 7:2 so I'm pleased with that. I did have a small dish of pasta last week and didn't see a rise either but this is a rare treat. I think I just need to be more adventurous with my diet but I guess it's easy to fall into a rut with food and I get bored easily. I do miss my carbs! I don't have breakfast so am fasting from around 9pm til 1pm the following day. I'll keep going as I know it's more important to see lower levels. Thanks again :)

How much protein are you eating ? If too much can slow diet loss . My understanding is that you should aim at 0.8gm per Kg of the weight that you want to reduce to .

I was stuck at same weight from 6 weeks and then lost 7lbs in the 7th week so does LCHF can take some time. I felt the important thing was the BS which were going down to non diabetic levels so I tried not to stress about the loss of weight ( or rather lack of it!)

I have either fish or chicken most days, steak once a week. Portions aren't huge though? That's interesting what you say about it slowing the weight loss. I'd love a 7lb loss in a week!

Don't forget it isn't just fish and meat that are protein sources. You also need to count things such as eggs, cheese, yogurt, seeds, nuts, most vegetables, milk and so on.

There is no reason to believe SW will be any better than a low-carb diet. SW make money being all things to all people and selling their foods. Personally I would stick with the Low Carb Higher Fat diet.
