Is there such a thing as high calorie low carb diet?

I do not know and still have a load of weight to lose but I have found variances in how hungry I am during the day according to what I have for breakfast. - Hmm I do not have a meter so there may be a good reason and it is harmful but I know you do check. If I have porridge or berries and cream for breakfast I am ravenous all day and constantly picking at stuff. My usual breakfast is a two egg omelette and this covers me to lunch. It would be rare for me to eat again before dinner and even rarer to have something after the main course. If I am likely to miss lunch or have a strenuous day ahead I microwave a buttered lidl roll filled with cheddar for 20 secs and cover it with koads of cream cheese. This is delicious but at times like that I am glad I am too lazy to count calories. So maybe occassionally missing the sensible start for the day and going for something that leaves you snacking would help. I find I do not want lunch if I have fried sausage, bacon and egg but we only do that when we have someone staying so there is a distraction factor plus the fact that would normally be served later in the morning will also have a bearing.

Covknit - - It's interesting that you feel hungry when you've had your porridge brekkers, but not most of the others. Whilst some would say porridge provides you with"good cards", it is by far the carbiest breakfast of those you have outlined. Many people have found similarly, although often they will also be seeing meter readings which reinforce their findings.
 
@miahara - I don't calorie count on a day to day basis these days, but when I was counting, and on the same diet I am now, I was consuming 2200-2500 calories a day with low carbs.

It took me a while to stabilise my weight and months to regain a couple of kilos I lost, post-surgery.

Those calories keep my mahooooosive 160cm tall, 48kg heavy frame stable.

I am a skinny type 2 trying to gain weight which I am very slowly putting on for breakfast I have half a lidl high protein roll with lots of butter and full fat soft cheese and Marmite and an avocado I snack on nuts and cheese .lunch is often home made veg soup with a swirl of double cream I add butter to my veg with my evening meal (meat fish chicken etc).Then my pudding is usually full fat yoghurt and Jersey double cream with berries and or nuts then if I am hungry in the evening I may have a crackerbread or cream cracker with butter and full fat cream cheese (lots of !)
My cholesterol levels are fine and I am usually very healthy apart from old age !

As others have said, cheese and nuts are good.

Oily fish tends to be high cal low carb.

Avocado is my one a day. It's not as high as nuts but you get to cover it in olive oil and garlic.... :)

Prawns are pretty high protein, with low carbs (0.9%) and low fat (1.5%)... go well with avocado EVOO and garlic!!
There is also stew made with only meat and some oily sauce like the Frenc "pot-au-feu" or the Italian "bollito misto". Of couse you can go for a simple stew made of poutry or veal and horseradish sause is tasty.
 
Very many thanks to all who have contributed helpful advice and suggestions! I think I'll start snacking on nuts between meals and adding double cream to soups and I'll also attempt to count calories too in order to get a better idea of my energy intake. I don't count carbs, I just avoid carby foods and manage to keep my BG in check pretty well.

You must be a very tall guy or a body builder with a target weight above 90kg? D.
I am 194 cm tall with a good covering on my body, as I was fond of a large quantity of beer at times my weight blew out to 110 kg. I managed to get this down to 102 kg were it sat for several years, when I was told I had T2 I changed by approach and got it down to 98 kg.

Metformin and mlchf day changed that, and I decided 90 kg was a good target to aim for as that was 5 kg above my weight when I was smoker.

I was pricing protein mixes at the pharmacy I go to, most of them are high carb, but they had one with lowish carbs I am interested in getting next time I am in there.
 
I don't believe in that kind of diets. The best is to have a balanced and healthy diet with almost everything.

I eat a balanced and healthy diet that simply excludes all the high carbohydrate food that caused me to become diabetic in the first place, but includes more or less everything else - no problem.

If you are underweight and diabetic, then to eat more calories to provide you with adequate energy it's quite sensible and acceptable to eat more healthy, nutritious protein and/or full fat foods.

Me too - although I actually have a more than good covering on my body, but I consider this essential insulation for the colder weather....
