By eck, its cold, freezing fog and ice under foot. I did a days work yesterday in the cold and couldn't get warm, my hands were raw by the end of the day and it took a run, a hot shower and a couple of hours to warm my feet.

I've just been for a run this morning, usual distance and it was so cold I hardly sweated at all, what I did froze to my face. I slipped on the ice and pulled another muscle in the back of my leg, so thats both legs and my ankle in just over a week  Sometimes I feel I'm getting really old

Sat here now after standing in hot shower for 20 minutes or so, can hardly feel my blommin toes. I think I'll get some of those furry boots you ladies wear    for in the house

Got to go out again soon, cos I promised to take the Grandkids a walk with the new Christmas bikes, Oh well, hat scarf, gloves, big boots etc. at least I'm getting the weight off.

Hi Cameraman,
My son is a fisherman so you can imagine how cold he gets out on the water. He wears thermal vests, thermal longjohns and thermal socks . I think they help a bit but he still has to defrost himself when he gets home.
Regards, Catherine.

Wear two pairs of socks,a thin ,natural fibre pair and a thermal pair on top of them.Layers help to keep you warm but always have the natual fibre next to your body to absorb any sweat.

Good point Sue. The thermals that my son wears go over his cotton garments.

Yesterday evening I had to scrape the ice off the inside of my car windscreen before going out to play tennis on our outdoor all-weather courts. White with frost but the astraturf was not slippery :D After a few games the gloves & faux-fur hat came off. We only played for 1½ hours, but it was so pleasant we could have gone on much longer.

I've been out walking today and yesterday.Hiking boots and walking socks take care of the feet
I wear leggings under my craghopper trousers and a load of layers on my top half, plus. hat, gloves, scarf. Toasty warm, even lowering the zip on my jacket afte about a mile of brisk walking.
Everywhere was white with hoar frost when I went out. It took me several minutes to de-ice my car,AFTER the few seconds for the glow plug light to go out.

Can I be a bit smug? It's just under 60°F here and this afternoon my wife and I will slip on light jackets and go for a walk on the beach :D . Of course, on 15 January we'll be back in cold, cold Europe, but I'm making the most of it while we've got it  .

By all means make us all jealous!

its very cold ere too, went to my village yesterday to pick up my test strips and my fingers were numb even with gloves brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :?

Was at New Years Eves party last night, i remained sober, only due to the fact i had raging heartburn for some unexplained reason! anyway Andrew fell completely off the wagon and was high most of the night, and i mean in the 20's even though he ran around all night, but on heading home which is only a 10 minute walk, he fell considerably. It was -5
Happy New Year to you all, may 2009 bring you a wealth of good health

Stayed in all last night - i've got the obligatory sniffly nose and barking cough lol. Feeling a bit better today though so going to wrap up later and take the teenager for a nice walk to our local wildlife reserve. Very glad I stocked up on Lemsip and Soothers though! Have a very peaceful 2009 everyone

Perhaps he burned off the sugar just keeping warm. I went out to my daughter's house to feed her dogs last night and my shiver muscles went into spasm.

Hi Hana,
thats just what i thought,(though i was happy he was a 10.9 before bed rather than the 26.3 he was before we left) we have noticed Andrew tends to feel the cold more than the rest of us. He now wears thick chunky socks and his slippers are fur lined (he'd be embaressed if his friends knew!) This is the coldest winter i have ever known, and he wraps up so much when we go out, he's like the michelin man! At night he wears bedsocks, fleece PJ's a 10.4tog duvet plus another 4tog over the top and his hot water bottle! and his bedroon has the chimney breast in it so its the hottest room in the house. Do you think there could be another reason why he's so cold?
Happy new year

It's been absolutely freezing here the last week or so. Getting to work is hard as the pavements are like skating rinks and most buses don't put on the heating!! My feet and hands are frozen with very little feeling when I get to wrok. I'm now going to start wearing bed socks!! My feet were blocks of ice last night in bed. Maybe even an old fleece in bed too. Oh the joys of getting older :(

-3 this morning!!!! the anti freeze on my windscreen kept freezing!!!! Dont buy that cheap TESCO anti-freeze!!! lol

i was actually colder outside last night than it was in the ice rink!

it was between -4 and -6 travelling to work this morning. No comfortable car though as have to use local buses. whatever happened to their heating? feel sorry for me yet? No.....didn't think so.

the weather forecast has just given for us poor folk in Northern Ireland freezing conditions for tonight, Apparently it's to be colder than last night where some regions, especially hilly areas hit minus 12, country lakes showed signs of freezing over. Where i live we're to expect -6, looks like the hot water bottles/thermals/fleece blankies and bed socks will be put to good use tonight along with the all night burner. This is going to be a very expensive winter!

Re: Its cold tonight

... but we still played tennis. The snow had cleared, though there was a hard frost, & there were patches on the court under the astraturf that had frozen hard giving an irregular bounce.

We soon warmed up, though the club house seemed extra warm afterwards :)

It's already an expensive winter, we have a prepayment electric meter (no gas) and I bought £30 worth last week! Aargh!
