I've just received my latest blood test results...

Inclined to agree with him at this point but see how it goes. Drop the jam would be my first stop along the journey and then re test.
Yes, he said to drop the obvious sugary stuff. I'm actually happy cutting a lot of the carbs out. I've been cutting down for the past couple of weeks. Since the meter arrived a couple of days ago I've tested porridge and pizza. The pizza was a total disaster... I'm actually realising that some of the carbs taste dull and they aren't that amazing. Not saying that to be defensive because I'm forced to cut them, it is something that I have noticed. The first couple of mouthfuls are nice and then I realise I've had enough. One day I'll test with one small slice of pizza and see what happens but for the moment I'll stick to safer foods so as not to jeopardise the HbA1c in 3 months' time.

I hear you .... well done on the attitude .... ask away if you need advice :)

Sounds like you've got a good start - well done!

One thing someone told me when I was first starting to test is to use each finger in turn - for instance pre-breakfast use left side of left thumb pad, then post-breakfast use right side of left thumb pad. Then move to left forefinger and so on until you've worked your way through all fingers of both hands. This means your fingers have a bit of a break and it's easier to keep track of which fingers are OK to poke!

I also use one lancet for the whole day's testing. I find it doesn't blunt in that time and saves faffing about. I wouldn't use it beyond one day, though.

Good luck - happy poking!

Thanks :-)

And thanks also for the advice, I've just been poking random fingers although some more than others no doubt. My left hand is a bit battered with the holes in my fingers plus the little finger is in a mess from when the dog yanked the lead yesterday! I've been changing the lancet every few tests.

Ow, ow, ow! Huge hugs!

I don't know whether anyone will see this but I've just received the results of my HbA1c:
6.1% (the lab reference values are between 2.0 and 6.0)
There's room for improvement but it's not as bad as I was expecting. x
