Hi im type 2 im on glikclaside november id got my hbca1 test had come down from 65 down to 50 i was omn a lower dose and diet lost over a stone i think next month my next 3 month bloods are due and think they might be high anyho she wanted me to go on new medication Jardiance ive heard there is alot of side affects can anyone give me advice thank you

If I was in your position, even though you think your HbA1c will be worse, I wouldn’t want to change meds until I knew what I was working with. If you are tolerating Gliclazide is there room to increase that, something else to think about maybe?

i dont want to change but my diabetic nurse said i cant stay on gliclazde for ever so as she is the so called expert you tend to follow there advise but i said i wasnt sure she said the new medication would help my cardio deicese which i didnt know i had so just needed advie can i ask how you changed yours

Jardiance removes sugar and sends it to your kidneys before it goes through your system. It gives you sweet urine. Your body has bacteria around your elimination openings which love the sugar and can grow into urinary tract infections. Male and female. I wipe myself with plain water after urinating. I find it messy and uncomfortable and plan to get off Jardiance as soon as I can. There have been some people who developed a gangrene like condition - this is all documented in the side effects of Jardiance.

Did she say why you can’t stay on the Gliclizide? Whenever a HCP says something like that to me I ask for their justification for their statement

Here’s the NHS guidelines on Gliclizide, I would question her as to were she got her information, according to this website it can be taken long term, but like any medication it can stop working, but it sounds like it’s still working for you

The N.I.C.E guidelines don’t mention anything about not taking it for life or long term

For the benefit of our members who may not have heard of this type of gangrene before, and to conform to the forum rules please can you post a link to a reliable source of information regarding this rare side effect.
