Jump in hba1c in 2 weeks

This is my first post here and I am feeling incredibly lost and confused and really frustrated at a lack of clear answers.

Long long story short, I am in my late 20s and had a hba1c reading of 40 about 3 weeks ago. I had another one last week which came out at 44. The GP has filed this as normal but not told me until I called today.

Starchy carbs have been making me incredibly unwell to the point of passing out so I have stopped eating them, and in the 2 weeks in between the tests I have tracked my own levels and have been consistently in the normal range, high 4s to mid 5s generally, the occasional low 6.
I can't understand how I've had a rise of 4 in two weeks when my levels have been normal.
As they've filed it as normal I can't speak to anyone today but I was just wondering is this in the realms of normality? Should I be worried? I
 
A reading of 40 in considered non-diabetic or normal in the UK. A reading of 44 however is in the pre-diabetic range. So don't panic.
There can be small differences in HbA1C readings which are only indications of the BG levels averaged over the last 2 to 3 months. But not as much as between 40 and 44 unless there was some discrepancy. If you were testing your BG with a finger prick test 2hrs after each meal then it would seem very unusual for the HbA1C to have risen that much while your spot BG levels have stayed good.
Both sugary and starch carbohydrates turn into glucose and so raise our BG levels, however they are just the things that we can control.
The other things that raise BG in the medium term include:
Infection or injury
Stress or lack of sleep
Medications including Statins and Steroids
 
@givemethepomegranate I spent 45 years telling HCPs that I felt unwell after eating starchy or high sugar foods, and then was diagnosed as far into the type 2 range. It seems that there is a long run up to diagnosis, and I ate low carb for much of the time despite the hammering on about 'healthy' carbs I was subjected to.
I think some people just cannot deal with the amount of carb in the modern diet and are better off eating low carb foods, staying thinner and more active too, as a result of their diet.
