Just been diagnosed as Type 2

Sorry to hear that Conor, all the best with managing going forwards. Intermittent fasting has worked wonders for me, if you google Dr Fung Diabetes he explains in detail how fasting can help with Insulin resistance.
Low carb all the way and you will be able to manage your blood sugar levels fine, my weakness was pasta but I found this substitute and I won't lie and say its the same as pasta but with a sauce on top its the closest I have found; Edamame & Mung Bean Fettuccine whole box only has 21 grams of carbs literally a third of normal pasta.

Welcome to the forum @Conor1974

I understand that it's not quite the way you wanted to start you week but it's early days yet. For example, you have lots to keep you occupied, like updating your profile from "Don't have diabetes". This is a positive and exciting thing! Ok, maybe not exciting. Probably not positive either depending on how you look at it. But it will keep you occupied!

I don't have T2 so can't comment on metamorfin but I do inject insulin multiple times daily. Some days are harder for me than others, like most people even without diabetes. Stay positive, you can do this.

For a long time i was just on the border as prediabetic but this weekend i had a blood test and have been told i am now diabetic. Started on Metformin today.

not quite how i wanted to start the week.

And perhaps, it's the little push you needed to make a few more changes to your diet.

On food and swaps.

@coops86 touches on it in their post.

If it helps I went that route once I realised how much I missed my usual dishes

If I could go back and guide that earlier ME .

My top tip, was look at what I missed, examine what needed to change if I wanted to continue enjoying the meal, and realise sooner, the format is NOT set in stone.

Make what your cooking work for YOU.

And by that I mean, chicken curry for example...skip the rice use cauli rice...ok.

But it's a faff 'ricing' a cauliflower, just to fake the LOOK of another meal

So I ended up just cutting up a cauliflower, (bite size or steaks) baking in oven and placing curry on side to be spooned over cauliflower .

It's chicken curry, with a little twist.
Tastes delicious.

Once I got over that hurdle, I stopped seeing the swaps as genuine like for like, and more as the additions & compliment to the plated meal, that rice & pasta always were meant to be.

so I still have my chilli con carnes & spag bol, they just have a LCHF twist to them these days

same same, but different. I think I've read.

good luck finding ways that work for YOU.

Don't blame yourself and get ready to learn about food choices. So many people start here and want know what next. The doctor said "take these pills and go away" All the information is here with the support of many people. It's a learning curve. Diabetic type2 and now with the knowledge of food Pre Diabetic and a good life. I wish you well.

A good reply and the proper information. We all had the learn to adapt.

Hi, of course it's not what you wanted to hear but maybe it will be the push to make some changes?

You don't say what your A1c test result was. You'll find that many people on this forum here have reduced their blood sugar levels very quickly through a low-carb style of eating. The main issue with this for some, as I see it, is unlearning all the stuff you've been encouraged to accept about how eating fat is bad, that you must reduce meat consumption, and that starchy carbohydrates are what you should base your meals around. In the low-carb world, the opposite is true. Meat and fats are good to eat, carbs come with many problems.

In my early days I found this forum to be a great source of advice and expertise, coming from people who were living with diabetes. There's no single 'one size fits all' solution - you have to find the style that gives you the results you want but allows you to live well and enjoy your food.

Ask questions, and make up your own mind. Best of luck.

Thanks Everyone,

The 1st test i had 2 weeks ago HBa1c was 6.7 then had it done last week was 6.6. Started changing eating habits straight after the 1st blood test and have already lost 1.5kg. I'm also in a lucky position to have a wife who is a GP so can help me along the way.

Its all new to me and I think I'm being a bit hard on my self. It's a learning curve and will make things better for the future.

Today is a bad day for me. Actually it's probably one of the worst days I've had since I was diagnosed with 3c.

New can be scary. If you ever want to talk just ask. I can't promise I can help (but others might) but I think I can at least guess where you're at and how you might feel. It's great that you have good support

Nice work on the weight loss!

Edit: don't be hard on yourself. This is easier to say than practice, I know

Hi Conor - one of the interesting things in the world of diabetes is the number of different ways to measure essentially the same thing - blood glucose. For the sake of others, I'm attaching a pic that helps people understand how to read across the different systems.

You seem to be getting on with it!
