Just caught covid

Hi all. Been unwell for a few days with negative antigen results but today it's confirmed covid with the double lines. I have all the common symptoms; aches, cough, chills, runny nose and loss of taste. Any guidelines / personal advice in managing covid with T2D?
Hi rhubarx, so sorry you are ill with Covid. I have no suggestions but I am sure there are plenty on here that can help or advise x

Hi @rhubarx

I hope you feel better soon.

I'm just recovering from covid at the moment but as I'm T1 my advice may not be that useful. However, if you are on insulin I encourage you to contact your diabetic team for advice on dosing, as insulin needs tend to go up during illness. (Mine have).

Lots of virtual hugs.

Everyone is different. But, i was told because I was young i wouldn't need to worry even with T2 diabetes. I had no symptoms.. although my blood sugars were high even before so i already wasn't well.
But, the positive test was clear within 4 days. If you feel you're getting worse or that you're dying then definitely call 999 or have someone around you.

From my experience I ended up in hospital the best thing I did was to use a Pulse Oximeter to monitor my blood oxygen levels when they went down low we called 999 for an ambulance.

A relatively cheap device than can be a life saver.

If you are diet controlled then many of the common remedies for sore throats, etc are not the best for us. I found I wasn't capable of staying up to make healthy meals but stocked up with low carb soups. I added extra chicken from a pack of roast chicken slices, you could also do this with stock cubes/pots.
I keep in a small bottle of glycerine to make up a hot lemon drink that's soothing with adding in honey (it's usually stocked in the baking section in supermarkets), and I also have some orange flavoured black tea - it has pieces of real orange peel in it. If you have an unwaxed or organic orange just add a little the peel while making ordinary tea.
And if you can cope with the sweetener then Hartley's 10 jellies are easy to swallow.

The advice from @JohnEGreen is potentially life saving and very cheap circa £15.00 - £20.00 (I know from direct complication experience). If you have a newish smartwatch from Samsung, Apple or Garmin it is likely to have blood oxygen monitoring built in, where you would want to be 94% or above.

If you are able sleep and rest on your front, which increases oxygen into the lungs.
