Just did my first meter test, what do the results mean?

Evening All,

So my first full day of testing and I thought I'd share the results for you guys to comment on.

As you know, not a good start with a fasting level of 7.6.

I had breakfast, low carb toast, 1/2 avacado and a grilled Tomato.

2 hrs later the reading was 6.8.

Swim before lunch which was a low carb wrap, roast chicken breast, salad leaves and some Italian cheese.

I was out so I couldn't take a pre reading but post lunch was 7.4. I thought this was high given lunch was fairly light.

Mid afternoon snack was 2* ryvita with thin slices of cheddar cheese.

Things got better at this point, pre dinner reading was 4.5.

Dinner, sweet potato and black bean chili with sweet potato rice, followed by four squares of green and blacks 85% chocolate.

Post dinner reading 6.3, so less than 2 mmol increase and well under the 7.8 upper limit. :)

So that would indicate that sweet potato doesn't spike me (good to know) and that ryvita and cheese makes a safe snack.

I'm looking forward to the mornings stab and seeing how my body reacts to today, estimated total carbs 88g.

Looking good so far, I often find my pre dinner reading to be the lowest most day (post dinner is sometimes lower if I have a very low carb dinner. This is because insulin resistance improves as the day goes by.
Don’t get too het up if your fasting blood sugar in the morning doesn’t get much lower yet, as that reading is usually the last to normalise. Have you read about dawn phenomenon? If not have a read here:

Thanks for the link, I did read that earlier today whilst I was looking into some of @zand 's comments on my earlier post.

I wasn't sure what to do about it to be honest. I'm currently not taking medication, and the only post dinner snack I had yesterday was a little bit of cheese which should have been 0 carb. Not sure if it was the result of a high carb day / dinner or of it's just something I need to ride out for a few weeks.

I'm trying to do both, over 30kg lost in 4 months (actually worrying I'm losing it too quick).

With your low diagnostic level & massive weight loss you should start seeing some great results in the coming months.
If the visceral fat was the reason for your insulin resistance then your beta cells should continue to heal gradually over 12 months.
The fact you can put away 88gs of carbs & stay in range is a great sign.
