I have had my diabetic review this morning, the first since I started low carbing. I was hoping for a reduction in my HBA1C, although I've only been on the low carb diet for 6 weeks and I've also been reducing my use of insulin during that time.
Well, here are the results, including cholesterol and whilst there's more work to do I'm pretty pleased.
HBA1C 7.2 (my best ever HBA1C and down from 10 in mid Dec)
Cholesterol - 3.0
HDL - 1
LDL - 1.7
Triglyceride - 0.79
I have explained that I am attempting to get off the insulin altogether and my DBS is going to recommend one of the new style drugs (Sitaglyptin?) if my doctor agrees. She was very interested in my low carbing (which she has been doing herself as an experiment on weight loss). She said that she was aware that low carbing was at odds with the NHS standard line for diabetics, but that she was preparing a paper for the practice doctors as she believes it's a better therapy for type 2 diabetics. So she was delighted with my results (and graphs) as evidence of the effect it can have in such a short space of time.
I should know tomorrow whether they will approve my change in medication.
