Hi all,

Just so VERY pleased! Thanks to the kindness of a wonderful neighbour (who is also T2) I am now the proud owner of an Aviva Nano!! He has several meters including the Nano and had (don't know why) just received another, and when he heard I did not have one, he offered this brand new meter to me!! Fantastic!!

Put it together after my dinner and read the instructions etc. and could not but try it out!! hehehehe My Bg was 7.5 and this was 1.5 hours after my dinner - know timing no ideal, but will now test fasting in the morning before going to the Doc's appointment and hope to persuade him to give me teststrips and lancets.

I am kinda pleased with my 7.5 result considering that 4 weeks ago my fasting test was 17!!

Also, my spirits are way up not least thanks to some lovely PMs and one particularly incredible PM - you know who you are!!

Thanks
Alice

hya alice,
i am so pleased you have managed to get those readings and now u have a meter im sure u will soon get them to your liking,
its great to see someone happy :D

Re: Just had to share - testing - question

Is there a website or any info, that actually explains what these figures mean and the significance of them. What is good and bad and how these should be at certain times?

i realise that there is more to it but keeping your spirits up, to me, is a brilliant way forward. Keep it up. Be positive. best wishes.

The info I have is that your numbers first thing in the morning - fasting - should be between 5 -7 and max 8.5 2 hours after a meal.

I am sure more experienced members will fill out the blanks for us both!

Alice

i always try to keep between 4/7 before meals and no higher than 10mmol after, altho i dont like to go above 8mmol after a meal, :D hope this helps

If you are aT2 these are the guideline figures for Bg levels.
Fasting(waking)...................between 4 - 7 mmol/l.
2 hrs after meals..................no more than 8.5 mmol/l.

Stay within those figures and you won't go too far wrong.

Hi
Oh that was so nice of your neighbour, Giving you a spare new meter! Well done him! He deserves a gold star!
The numbers are good as well!
Great for you!
I have been low carbing into my 5th week! Guess what, first time after meal that i have had my BG is simgle numbers i am so proud! I stuck with the diet and worked wonders!
I hope all is well!
I got my doctor to give me test sticks and lancets, by saying that if i am to be in control of my condition then i need to test to be able to get hold of it! I want to control my diabeties not the other way around!
I hope all goes well at the doctors for you! Well done! You should be proud of yourself! If i could i would give you a gold star! But don't have one at the minute!
Well done and long may it continue!
Sandy

Hi Alice,

What a nice neighbour to have! And what a good result. At 1½ hours after your meal your BS should be just beyond its peak and on the way down, so 7.5 is a pretty good reading. Looks like the diet is really paying dividends.

Hello again,

Well, saw the doc this morning and not entirely unexpected the answer from the Doc was a polite but firm no to testing. He was however very pleased with how I was doing the the results of the bloods taken last week and the weight loss, and encouraged me to continue with the low carb diet until reaching my ideal weight and he also approved of my plans to then go Low Gi with carb management.

We did discuss the testing issue but he is not in favour of self testing for T2 but look at weight loss / exercise regime and will do bloods every 3 months and weight/health check every 6 weeks. The blood test a week ago showed Bg of 7.7 (fasting) and HbsA1c of 10.1, so well down from the original tests. Everything else was just fine and raised no concerns. Smilingly, his parting words were that he hoped to see my next HbsA1c down to about 9!! Hopefully, I will prove him that with self testing one can do even better!! :)

My fasting Bg this morning was 7.4 so further down from last week which I suppose is good. So it is onwards with the diet/exercise regime!

Hi Alice,
That is a shame as my gp and nurse is happy with me testing! It is stupid that they think type 2's don't need to test as this is important as type 1's testing! As there are foods that will react different at different times!
Well done on everything! I wish i could go for long walks like you!
My ankles give way as had both of them broken, and they have never really recovered from that!
I hope that you might be able to get some strips from ebay cheap etc!
My Gp said that testing is important!
Sorry for that!
keep up the good work you are doing so well! You should be proud of yourself! :D
Sandy

Well, that's a bit of a bu**er!
Sometimes they need a little shove in the right direction and a copy of the NICE guidelines.
You doing everything else right though, and the numbers show that!

Hi Alice - I must say that you seem to be well on track to change your situation dramatically. Well done! I've absolutely no doubt whatsoever that you'll do better than 9 next time. Keep up the great work!

My GP was satisfied when I reached an HbA1c of 6.8 (i.e less than his target of 7). He too didn't want me to test. I disregarded his advice and bought my own strips. My HbA1c started at 9.4% and went from 6.8 > 5.7 > 5.5 last time = and it's still going lower. Believe me it is possible!

By the way, you have a great Ticker! Better than mine - but I'm not far behind.

Best Wishes - John

........ and the kindness and generousity goes on!

I got a meter from my neighbour and someone (who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are) sent me some test strips and lancets as well as the most encouraging message. That really made my day!

So I am testing ......... but only twice a day due to the limitations. However, I seem to be getting good results. Fasting yesterday morning 7.4 - this morning 7.1. 2 hours after dinner, yesterday - 5.5. And my weight is down slightly again. So back on track it seems.

I am just happy to be able to keep a little eye on the figures - I hope to get good figures over the next two weeks and then hopefully armed with this information, I can persuade the other GP to reconsider supplying me with test strips and lancets!

Thanks for your support and incredible kindness - it has really been a boost!

Best

Hi alice,
Well done you! That is so nice of someone doing that for you!
Your numbers are great and something to be proud on! Well done on weight loss!
Sandy

Oh my word!! Under 7.0 (6.9) for my fasting morning Bg, this morning! :D

Sorry if I seem a bit OTT, but I am of course delighted to see the "numbers" dropping and just seeing it under 7.0 is a bit of a result (me thinks!)
