So, T2 for 14 months. Had an episode over Christmas that sent my BG to over 34mmol. You can read more here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/steroids-and-antibiotics.170863/#post-2192307
I ended up in hospital for a couple of days last weekend, and the Doctor discharged me with "the (Hong Kong) Hospital Authority doesn't allow me to prescribe what you need, suggest you go private".
Luckily my insurance covers that, so I saw an Endo yesterday. SHE WAS AMAZING. It felt like the first person I have spoken to since my diagnosis who seems to know what they are talking about. Totally pro-low-carb.
Long story short, I was averaging around 11mmol with spikes up to 15 this week. My HbA1c was came in 10.7%/14.4mmol/L. Which is crazy as up until early November my average BG was around 7mmol.
Anyway, to get me through this "crisis" stage, she has prescribed Soliqua 100/50 (which isn't in our drug database, possibly because it isn't prescribed in the UK, and possibly because it is a mix of Lantus and Lyxumia a GLP-1 agonist).
Took first dose at clinic, by the time I got home an hour later, my BG was 6.7. Such joy!
Today I have had more energy, less brain fog but a tad nauseous all day. I topped out at 11mmol around 1pm so took my lunchtime 1000mg metformin as usual but no food.
Took my Soliqua as prescribed when I got home from work: BG@ 6.5. An hour later 6.4. Happy with the numbers, just wondered if this is typical, and what to expect.
I've come to see a trend that 1000mg metformin only drops my BG around 2mmol. I basically have no idea how the Lantus should work...
