Have just taken first one praying no major side effects .well I can but hope..low carbs and meds I'm hoping will help. On the plus side I don't have to go out today :-) so least comfy at home..hope your all doing well today x

Hi. Hopefully you won't have any side effects but as you may have gathered if you do have noticeable bowel problems do ask for the SR (Slow Release) version to be prescribed. You may have a metallic taste for a while which is quite common and will gradually disappear.

Thank you I did ask when they gave me them for sr and got a flat no he he but I will re ask..

Good morning.
I hope you get on with the Metformin, I have been on them for just over 3 mth's (I take 3 a day) and apart from a slight aftertaste to begin with, I have not had any side effects, In fact I could have reduced by one this month but elected to stay on 3 because of the many good "side effects".
By the way my hba1c has drop;)ped a lot on them, Good luck.

Thank you guys. Hope your days are all good xx

me to snap first day on metaforin ... see what happens xx

Good luck. Metformin doesn't have bad effects on everybody. If you do react, I've found that taking the Metformin in the middle of my meal works for me and others have said that cutting their tablets in half, which then allows them to take it with each meal, more evenly through the day, is better for them.

Don't cut the slow release tablets in this way, BTW.

Thank you so far so good mind its only been two hour :-)

Hi mrs gimli and welcome to the forum and I hope you dont get any side effects from your Metformin.

I find it best to adopt a positive mental attitude to all things diabetes related especially medications as if you are at all fearful of bad side effects you are more likely to have them or even to imagine them by maybe blaming unrelated aches and pains on a newly prescribed drug.

Better to think Metformin will help me to get my blood glucose (bg) levels under control than I hope I dont suffer side effects...Most people dont suffer any side effects at all or just some mild tummy cramps and wind which may last a few weeks but it is a very useful medication that most people find a valuable aid in their overall diabetic control.

So good luck and I wish you a very happy and hopefully stress free new year with no nasty side effects from your newly prescribed Metforin :)

Aww thank you your right and I will take your advice and I'm smiling and enjoying the day ..

Hope all goes well Cath, like I say I've been on 3 a day for a few months now, and am just getting used to taking one every meal, as I have been one of the lucky ones I have not had to take medication on a regular basis until I was diagnosed, :watching: let us know how you are getting on (if it is not too graphic) :D

So far my side effects are minimal and if my tablets are working its all good!! Good luck hope your side effect free

Thanks all and I hope cath your ok as well so far so good he he..

mrs gimli, what were you feeling like before you took your metformin? I'm asking because I'm peddlling backwards as far as med taking is concerned. Is this wise?

Chatterbox. I was dx very recent type 2 and I found out as I have abcess that needed me to go hospital to be sorted. So to be honest I've been really down as abcess struggling to heal. I have to say so far so good with the metformin and no major side effects although its just third day..and if it wasn't for abcess's I'd be feeling great today..loads of energy I'm just to sore to use it ;-) .

Never had any problems with any of my meds. I started on metformin, statins, no issues at all. I was changed to metformin SR when they changed other diabetes treatment, but not for side effects. Maybe I've been lucky, or maybe it's just the bad experiences that get the publicity, and rarely the good.
