Seems like this thread is a success and more people who feel they can't say they struggle to loose weight will join in. Perhaps also it will stop some people saying " all you have to do is go low carb and you will loose weight" I myself have never been overweight my problem is keeping weight on and people saying to me "eat more fat "like that is suddenly the answer to all problems it is not the solution for me it is down to my metabolism not what food I eat.
I am sure this thread is going to make a lot of people feel happier when they can talk to others who can empathise with them and not feel a failure because they are not loosing weight

Mod edit, thread created to avoid derailing the following thread:

Interesting to get the perspective of someone who has difficulty keeping weight on.
I do seem to remember other members mentioning that from time to time, too. Can't quite remember who was involved. Not sure if someone started a thread for that yet. I guess some of us would like to swap metabolisms for a while? If only that were possible, eh? That would be a real insight into what difficulties others have.
We can only know what works for each of our individual unique circumstances. By sharing experiences we can, perhaps, give others ideas, and encouragement not to get too worn down.

I think it is important to remember that this is first and foremost a diabetes forum. The advice to go low carb is primarily to help with BG levels, the fact that most people also lose weight on it is good and we would be wrong not to mention it to those people. I am delighted when it works for others even though it no longer works for me. What would also be wrong would be for us to say 'Well if it doesn't work for you for weight loss then you are not doing it properly' Most people try to offer further help when weight loss is still an issue... that's all we can do - do our best to help others. Likewise the advice to you to eat more fat is just that, someone trying to help you, if it doesn't work for you it doesn't mean they were wrong to mention it.

Perhaps you could make another thread for those people like yourself who lose too much weight when low carbing?

Yes of course I agree that LCHF should be advised and most people will try it but some people can be quite harsh about it and make it sound like anyone not loosing weight or like me not putting it on must be doing it all wrong and that is what can make people feel they can't talk about it

I do not think there is a specific thread for those who find putting on weight a problem and I think people who have always been really slim and then loose weight that they do not need to when they go LCHF can find it very difficult to regain that weight.

Unfortunately, there are people who like to decry any method of diabetes control if it doesn't suit them. I have had particular difficulty with Newcastle diet naysayers. We each need to gather as much information as we can, and use what works for us. Some of us have a more difficult time finding our personal 'holy grail' than others.

Yes information and advice is important and we all need the support to find our own personal Holy Grail as one diet does not work for everyone

@Pinkorchid - I am someone who works to keep their weight up. I do use a LC diet, with enough fat. I don't like the term High Fat as it tends to be emotive to so many, one way or another.

Personally, when I carried a few pounds, I was very stable in my weight. I rarely varied much (let's face it, we all vary a little on a day to day/week to week basis), and trying to drop a few pounds was a bit of a challenge, until I discovered reduced carbs.

As I sad, I now have to work to maintain my weight up, and of course, that's my brand of frustration.

For me, though, it doesn't make a reduced carb diet wrong in any way. It just means I have had to work hard to maintain my weight (up), rather than those who have to work at least as hard to maintain it down.

We each have a very individual challenge with weight, just as we do with the foods we like to eat, versus the foods we might like to eat, in an ideal world. For me, in my world, I get on with it and live my life in the best way I can. That other people do similarly, eating different foods is absolutely fine with me, provided they are happy and healthy.

For all of us our health is a work in progress because let's face it, our bodies are dynamic things, with developments (welcome or otherwise!) cropping up all the time. For now, I feel I'm in a pretty decent place, healthwise, but I would like to cope better with the cold. Let's face it though, it could be so much worse, and I just look forward to my winter sun all the more these days.

For me, all I can do is try to keep fighting my own good fight and offer a few words of encouragement to those in a different health/weight place to me, because frankly, I know I'll be asking new questions sooner or later. If anyone can find a way of bringing back my 25 year old body and health and allowing me to keep it for the rest of my days, I'd surely be interested in hearing about it.

I am under weight type 2 on metformin The battle to put weight on is on going if I have a cold and feel a bit off for example I will lose weight in a couple of days then it can take weeks to creep up again ,but I would rather keep my BGS stable than eat more carbs to gain weight The annoying thing is when people tell me that I am lucky to be so slim and not have to diet (GRRR)
CAROL

Yep, a struggler to keep weight on too.
Totally different causations to most though.
I am OTT now on ensuring I take multivitamins and try to make my food balanced nutritionally with protein, iron, omegas and although I ve always low carbed before it was labelled as such, mine is a natural habit, it is my lifestyle, and I struggle to break it.
Vitamins are more important to me than lchf and qty of carbs. Ensuring I don't fall anaemic again etc is more of a worry than counting carbs or worrying about too many or too few.
I don't actually see any benefit in being slim. I have had worse damage from radiotherapy because I was so thin. my consultants have all said that being slim can be worse when you have breast cancer...ie a 7mm tumour for a D person would not attach itself or be so close to ribcage as it is for a person that is a A/AA....
Sorry veered off... but struggling to keep weight on is not just the issue.. struggling to ensure foods are balanced and nutritional us just as important than keeping to lchf...or eating increased fat!!
