Hi I am new to this forum, I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
I had heart surgery a couple of years ago so gave up smoking and obviously I wasn’t very active for a while and the weight has just piled on. I have tried all sorts to lose weight and I walk a lot and go swimming but nothing works so I have decided to try this Keto diet, has anyone used the keto pills and did they help? I have bought some and started them today so let’s see.

I'm afraid that the people touting the 'keto pills' have got it the wrong way round - the ketones are produced because the body of a low carber is not using carbohydrates as fuel.
To get into ketosis you would normally need to reduce the carbs you are eating. That is how and why it works.

Yep, ketones are produced by the body for fuel in absence of it's preferable energy source - glucose.

However, Keto works as the reduction in carbs causes a reduction in energy intake. 1. As some people find keto diets satiating (reduce hunger) and 2. Because you're limiting food choice.

The second point is a pro and a con, can you see yourself sticking to a low carbohydrate diet long term?

Hi Marje,

I'm on the keto diet, and don't use pills. The ketones are released when the body uses fat for fuel rather than carbs, so it's your own body's ketones that you want, not from some outside source.... The pills are a bit of snake oil. Expensive snake oil at that. Just follow the diet (20 grams of carbs or less a day, thereabouts), and you should be doing a whole lot better in weight, bloodsugars and whatnot. Check dietdoctor.com, Dr. Jason Fung's The Diabetes Code, and maybe this link'll help a little, it's a quick start guide I wrote a while back: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/
