Ketosis and animals

A wolf? That sounds like a story needing telling.

I have noticed that at least some dogs are particularly friendly - I had put it down to the fingerprick blood residue on my jeans. However a friend's dog has taken to stealing my shoes - doesn't steal anyone else's, just mine. There's no blood on those.

We must smell differently, as orientals have always noticed westerners smell different due to dairy consumption, which they traditionally didn't imbibe.

Well there are service dogs who can detect all sorts of changes and conditions, my friend’s nephew has a seizure awareness dog and there is hypo awareness dogs so it doesn’t surprise me that animals can detect ketosis - a wolf is very novel though

Interesting replies, thank you. I had noticed dogs allowing me to stroke them or lean over them and owners saying that they didn't normally let people do that. The wolf was a visit to a wolf centre, (nothing brave and wild!) where a group of us got to walk out with one. Beforehand it had to give us all a sniff, but it stopped at me and sniffed longer and upwards. I just wondered if it was the keto breath. Maybe it recognised another carnivore. Just wondering if other people have had similar experiences.

I believe that many dogs are also very aware of our behaviour and changes in this can be as important as smell to them, and it's definitely not only trained alert dogs that can be sensitive to their owners health issues.

I used to know a dog breeder whose cancer was diagnosed after one of her dogs kept sniffing round her tummy area. And many years before I ended up with T2 one of my little Cavalier spaniels suddenly began to pay great attention to me and refused to leave my side one evening just before I started feeling slightly dizzy and headachy. He stuck like glue to me all night, and I sometimes still wonder what exactly triggered his very obvious concern.

Animal senses are amazing. My Harvey & Boris cats were very astute and telepathic. I only had to think the bedroom window was open and Harvey’d leggit up the stairs out of window, down conservatory roof and off not to come in till late
Their senses are SO much more sensitive. Boris would sit on me while really I’ll in bed waiting for ambulance ‍♀️

Hi,

It sometimes depends on how that animal has been treated..
My dog, (no longer with us.) was rescued. I happened to be wearing a big coat, boots & a baseball cap when I first met him.
He ran…
I found out he was previously owned by a couple. The boyfriend was pretty cruel. There was evidence he was driven off his food too?
He soon came round when he saw the boots & coat meant a walk out.

To be fair, a dog’s nose is highly sensitive. If you got some protein in the pocket or residue on the hands. They may well be interested. :)
