Absolutely you can, if they refuse ask to see another Dr in the practice.

Yes you need a GFR test and/or a creatine test which gives an indication of kidney function. The earlier kidney disease is caught...the better. So I second noblehead's advice to seek another GP

Yes, you must ask for referral if there are proteins in the kidney above the target limit; that's why they test for it. You have aright to 2nd opinion. Some of the diabetes meds such as Metformin can cause kidney problems like this.

Dr has done bloodtests but i feel its metformin splewin out the protein ive been on it 9 yrs time to demand a change

Can I ask why the hospital haven't done the tests when you are admitted?

I would definitely seek a 2nd opinion.

I had an ACT of 6.5 which is well above the normal, 2.5 and I discovered that I have had it for years. No one told me anything about it. However, it can go up into the 100s and they don't get too interested below about 50. All my other liver and kidney tests are bang in the middle of the normal range.

I did reduce the amount of protein I ate and it did drop to 3.5. I should eat less protein anyway because I am prone to gout.

I think the first thing you should do is ask what the tests are and what your figures are.
