Prediabetes Kit for testing blood glucose

I am a senior citizen living in the UK and have recently been diagnosed as Prediabetic. Can anyone please advise me exactly what I need to buy to check my blood glucose as I've been very much left to my own devices. I gather it's probably best for me to start with the finger prick test from what I have read. It's all a bit of minefield! Thank you in advance.
