Lantus - Splitting

Hi,
I take 18u of lantus at night. Is it best to
1. do a 50/50 split ie 9u am & 9u pm - there could be some highs to look out for
or
2. reduce it slowly so:
1st night 17u then 1u the following morning
2nd night 16u then 2u the following morning
3rd night 15u then 3u the following morning
4th night 14u then 4u the following morning........until I get to my split so a total of 9 days

There's no need to do a split-dose with lantus unless your finding your basal dose is running out and not lasting a full 24 hours, if this is the case then I would do a 50/50 split and see how that goes and adjust accordingly.
