So just got my latest result down from 56 to 39.

Not only was I over the moon, my doctor was very impressed. Total cholesterol slightly up but ratio is the best he has seen.

I’m proud of this achievement but know that I have to keep it up.

FSB was 6.1 - does this still sound quite high ?

Very well done! As you say keep up the good work,

FSB? Do you mean fasting blood sugar? Was this taken at the surgery? Although I have had non diabetic HbA1cs since last September my fasting blood sugar taken at the same time at my surgery wouldn’t look so good. My surgery doesn’t do them luckily, as fasting then travelling to the surgery through early morning traffic and waiting in a crowded waiting room for an enevitably late appt would raise my sugars artificially!
Anyway your 6.1 if accurate is prediabetic according to this table so not that bad:

What are your fasting levels you take at home? They will be much more accurate if you take them as soon as you wake up.

Great result, seems to me that you had a reasonably early diagnosis relatively and should be able to stay in the non diabetic range for your HbA1c with a consistent vigulent approach.

Heh Rachox - so yes the fasting blood sugar was done at the surgery, I’m averaging around 5.9 at home first thing, so 6.1 is fair - I have heard that FSB is the last to change so I’m not so concerned about that.

I think the initial diagnosis was a blessing in disguise as I’m now taking steps to be healthier overall

This is true indeed. I average 5.7/5.8 at home (anywhere between 5.0 and 6.2), on the morning of my last HbA1c test, I got 5.1 at home and the lab result taken 1h later was 5.9. This FBG yo-yo is driving me nuts though....

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER!

Well done on such a great result. As others say on here don’t fret about your fbg it’s often one of the highest of the day for many and the last to reduce. In my experience it took a fair few months - about 6 ? - to come in line with rest. And even now with an hbaca1 of 30 my fbg is one I’ve decided to not let worry me as it can still go up and down like a yo yo especially if have poor sleep and or stress. I care more about the pre and post meals reading as think these are more helpful in avoiding those damaging sugar spikes and learning which food works for your body.
Very well done you sending you a congratulatory hug.......
