Don't know if this is the right thread or not but i have to shout about it coz I have just come back from the doctors and my latest HbA1C is 6.00.

Doctor says it is perfect and my control is good.

I am chuffed to bits, as back in feb I was 7.4 and I was told by the practice nurse that I was not looking after myself and badly controlled and not compliant and all those other thigns they tell us.

And I have done it thanks to the confidence that I got on this forum to ignore the practice nurse and cut out all the starchy carbs.

AND in the process I have lost weight and lost my IBS - result I think.

:D :D :D

Congratulations on your latest numbers anniep

Brilliant

Well done Annie - that is so good!

Can I ask for some advice from members though please? My last one was 7.4 and I have been told that is excellent and don't need to see anyone or do anything different!
So why the disparity between answers? Is it a GP thing or is it a patient thing? Just wondered? :D

It is probably a comment from a GP without much knowledge of Diabetes.

However I think you came down from 9 in July ?? Not sure as I have difficulty reading the signature....therefore I suppose that is good, but could be better. Keep on doing what you are.....

There is one not far from here who has told a friend of mine his levels of between 9 and 30 mmol/l are nothing to worry about !!! This guy has already lost one leg to Diabetes, he now is on the way to losing another with an Ulcer that will not heal.........sometimes, I despair at some of the Medical Profession.

Good question, most members on here would much prefer to be lower than the recommended guidelines set out by NICE and our HCP, just aim for a level that you feel comfortable with personally. I am hoping my hba1c will be around 6 when I get my results back, if its a little higher I won't lose any sleep although I will be slightly disappointed.

Thank you for your replies - and sorry my signature is difficult to read - I have a penchant for green :D

I hadn't thought about the fact that it had come down since July - more the fact that they thought that 7.4 was OK! So will keep trying and hope that the meds continue to work!

Non-diabetic Hba1cs are around or just below 5%, so why something 1.5times as high should be regarded as good control eludes me. Unless it's just that [in my area] fewer than half the diabetics achieve7.5% or less. Probably because no-one expects better.
It looks like the medical profession just looks at what IS and not what COULD BE
It's like aiming an arrow at a target and praising the shot that misses completely

Well said, Hana, I couldn't agree more.

Hana and Etty,

Any member who lowers their BG levels from a high number to a lower number deserves praise for their achievement, not a rant about non-diabetic numbers. We are diabetics and therefore, while trying to achieve these numbers is your choice for some a significant reduction is equally satisfying and surely should be encouraged and supported.

Im sure your support is greatly appreciated Hana

Just because you find it easy to achieve 'non diabetic numbers' doesn't mean everyone else does. Cant you just encourage people who are making an effort?

Well done Annie. I know how pleased I was when my first test was 6.5. I had heard all these horrible and negative things about diabetes and getting such a good result makes you feel that the future isn't all dark and desperate. Keep up the good work. Results like yours are inspiring 8)

Hana, what ''eludes'' me is that you felt it necessary to post the above in a thread where someone has successfully reduced their a1c from 7.4 to 6.0 in the space of 9 months, which most would agree is a fantastic achievement!

So rather than put a damper on things all the time you may want to join in and congratulate the OP and stop your nonsense about ''non-diabetic numbers''.

Nigel

Annie,
I agree that 7.4 to 6.0 is a fantastic job not luck but hard work and no doubt by continuing the effort it could even go down a bit more into the fives. :)

just got my latest hba1c and went to see the doctor to she said its to low and could be fatal if it stays
at 5.8 they have took me off half of my insulin and are going to put me on another tablet in the
