I made a massive pan full of that ham veg lentil broth soup stuff (hoping yous know what I'm on about) just wondering as I'm trying to low carb if it's ok to eat it?

It depends how many carbs it has in it and how many you want to eat.

I eat lentil soup and bolus for it and stay in range.

I'm not sure how many carbs it has in now... I worked it out as I put everything in the pan but my family and I have eaten some since then... I've now split it into individual portions and frozen some. I'm guessing it might not be the best choice as it's got root veggies in it too think I'll stick to tuna salad today

Ah thanks for the info, I'll keep them as back ups... better than heading for the local takeaway

@Cookie 81 -I would eat a small bowl (4 ounces) with half a tuna salad myself. I love lentil-ham-carrot-potato combo soup.
I will look up average carb count for lentil soup for you. I use chron-o-meter to count carbs. They have a free app online:
https://cronometer.com/
24.4 carbs for 1 cup (8 ounces) of homemade lentil soup. That's twice the portion I was thinking of eating. 1 cup also has 50% of the folate you need for the day and 34% of the fiber you need for the day using American Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA).

You can create your own recipes there and save them for later use. I put my nickname in the title of the recipe at the end so I know it is mine Example: Breakfast, Oatmeal and coffee SAM.

I didn't put potatoes in but only cause I put far too many lentils in (forgot how much those things swell lol) it's got ham, carrot, parsnip, turnip & onion... it's so nice. I hope one day I can work things out like you do its all gobbledegook at the minute haha.

@Cookie 81 Even if lots of the soup has gone, you can still get an approx carb value if you followed a recipe as you can work out the approx value per so many millilitres.

Do you use Carbs and Cals? I don't myself but I know many Type 1s find it useful. Lentils are low GI and because they do swell up, as you've said, you don't need too many too thicken a soup or stew.

I don't know if you've done DAFNE?

I didn't follow a recipe, I just threw it all in a pot and hoped for the best... which was tasty. I haven't done a DAFNE course as in the past I was always pretty clued up. I will find it again I'm sure

I like the 'chuck it all in' method of soup/stew-making too : D But chucking it via the scales can help if you need a more accurate carb count : D

I'll definitely be doing that from now on... I'm determined to get decent control of my diabetes from now on
