Hello,
Type 1 for about 9 years, I'm now 59.
I have accidentally taken too much levemir this evening.
My dose is split as 13 units in the morning and 4 units in the evening.
I have taken 13 units this evening by accident, not concentrating on what I was doing.
What should I do tonight and also should I continue with my 13 units in the morning as usual?
Awaiting a clinician to call me on 111 but thought that I'd see what people think.
Sorry to bother you all

I think you are going to need to monitor your blood glucose and take carbohydrates to prevent lows. Running a bit higher short term is better than going low. Do you have a CGM - if so it may be worth checking the low glucose alarm is set ...

I also think you are going to need to reduce the morning dose to avoid lows the following day.

Hi, that seems a strange amount of units, I have been on Levimir for years and take 10 units morning and 10 units at bedtime, but just recently my blood sugars are low in morning so reduced to 8 units or if my sugars go high in evening, have been told to take 2 extra units but it is a long time since I have seen a consultant or had any advice. It seems really difficult since COVID to see anyone at a diabetic Clinic

Everyone needs different amounts and some do indeed split it unevenly as they need less overnight than during the day thats why Levemir is good if your basal changes differ at different times - as its the shortest lasting long-acting
I wish I could speak with someone to help me get my units right as I seem lower in morning and higher at night even though I exercise during the day but don’t seem to get what I need from the diabetic nurse as she thinks I am doing ok. I use to feel in control but the last couple of months not in control.

Just as an aside - as someone that had been on Novorapid and Levemir for as long as I can remember, I was surprised during a clinic review last year when the diabetic nurse suggested that Levemir was no longer considered one of the better "long acting" insulins and I switched to Toujeo Solostar Insulin as an alternative. I have to say that I find it gives a much better consistency in terms of a flatter line of control compared to the Levemir.

Just thought I'd mention it in case you wanted to raise the question during your next appointment. Obviously everyone is different and I was very nervous about switching to something new after so long but my level of control is definitely better afterwards.

Hi. In some ways Toujeo lasts longer and can be a better alternative if your overall control is good but for some, like me, it would not be better as I rely on being able to tweak my Basal Levemir daily as I have very bad control despite low-carbing. We are all different.
