3 Million in the USA but far higher numbers have severe effect elsewhere than in the US.

“Globally, Abbott has received reports of 736 severe adverse events (57 in the U.S.) and seven deaths (none in the U.S.) potentially associated with this issue.”

If undetected, incorrect low glucose readings over an extended period may lead to incorrect treatment decisions for people living with diabetes, such as excessive carbohydrate intake or skipping or delaying insulin doses. These decisions may pose serious health risks, including potential injury or death, or other less serious complications.

Abbott has identified and resolved the cause of the issue, which relates to one production line among several that make Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus sensors. The company continues to produce Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus sensors to fulfill replacement and new orders and does not expect significant supply disruptions.

This action involves approximately 3 million Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus sensors in the U.S. from that production line, about half of which are estimated to have expired or been used. Globally, Abbott has received reports of 736 severe adverse events (57 in the U.S.) and seven deaths (none in the U.S.) potentially associated with this issue.”

Thanks.
Was just coming here to post about this.
Thankfully I am on the Libre2+ so not directly affected.

I use Libre 3 sensors. There is a box in the Libre 3 notification email ( I’m sure it’s on their website too) where you can type in the sensor serial number, it tells you immediately if the sensor is one of the faulty ones.

The FDA have published a list of possibly affected codes.

Most seem to be in France/Germany/Italy.
Most were Libre 3 rather than 3+

The FDA warning is being updated as new info becomes available.
Check this web page for updates. The FDA is currently reviewing about this potentially high-risk device issue and will keep the public informed as significant new information becomes available.

There are some reports in USA of delays in replacing sensors; CS suggesting fingerpricks instead :(
If you have a working sensor but no new that is potentially unaffected, one could use Juggluco.nl to compare the new one with the old, running two sensors together. That would check out that particular sensor. Possible even adjust the level. ….

Here is an example of Juggluco with high new sensor and old (faulty) sensor running together on same app.
