HI Scarlet/Monika,
As mentioned I low carb. For me going weeks without a high or low makes it worth it. My HbA1c before LCing was 7.7% (frequent highs and hypos), then with low carbing it was 6.5% and now it's 6.1%.
The think that makes LCing work is that you need smaller amounts of insulin. Smaller amounts of insulin means that you will make smaller mistakes in calculating your dose. So you will have smaller highs and less severe hypos. They will also be less frequent. This is because when you inject insulin there's a 30% variation in the amount of insulin that is absorbed into the blood stream. So if you are out by 30% on a meal that needs 10 units, then you're going to go high, but if you are out by 30% on a 3 unit meal then you probably won't go high. Likewise, if you overestimate on a meal that you think needs 10 units, but needs 7, then you'll end up hypo. But if you overestimate on a meal that you think needs 3 units, but needs 2, then you probably won't go hypo (or it will be more mild than overestimating by 3 units).
LCing can be a pain, so if you feel you can't stick to it then just think about reducing the amount of carbs you eat. This will have the same effect.
