Hi. As I understand it, Trajenta is one of the Gliptin group (Linagliptin); similar to Januvia (Sitagliptin). Janumet is a combined Metformin and Januvia drug. This means you have changed from one gliptin to another and stopped Metformin. This may or may not help your drug reactions? Diamicron is known as Gliclazide in the UK and is at it's best prodding the pancreas to produce more insulin. If you are overweight you may be insulin resistant and Diamicron may not help much as you may already be swimming in insulin. I would have expected a strict low-carb diet to have been the highest priority to get your weight down and reduce insulin resistance. Metformin would be useful, but it looks like your body doesn't like it. It might be worth trying Slow Release Metformin i.e. the SR version as the side effects might be lower? This is all a guess and I'm not a professional, but my thoughts for what they are worth.

One day at a time visitor, you sound like you are stressing a bit. Have a look at Jenny Rhuls site - bloodsugar 101. Lots of very good info about diet and medication.

i am low carbing and increased exercise to 4 hours a day ,sometimes more ,still i am 7.6 fasting , and after breakfast of just scrambled eggs and a cofee and 2 hours exerising i was 7.6. i m around 7.4 at bedtime, i am not eating as much either ,why arent my numbers coming down to near normal levels ? im taking tradjenta only ,my doc has perscribed gliclazide mr ,but i havnt taken it at all, i dont want to gain any weight ,i have lost all the problems with the metformin and my weight is stable ,not loosing any either , despite 4 hours a day walking . would i be better off taking the gliclazide as was perscribed for me ? what about my weight ? if its going to increase it its defeating the purpose , only thing i havnt tried now is victoza , i dont know if i should ask for that . i really cant understand why numbers arent coming down lower and the weight too.
i apologise for been a nusiance but i cant seem to get my doc to sort it out once and for all ,im getting rather upset about it and very worried now .

Hi visitorf1.

If there is any insulin resistance [I have this] it can make things more difficult to shift weight .
[Even if you eat very litttle amounts - I have this problem too]
I get stuck with a plateaud weight [means it stays stuck] at a reading neither going up or down ...

Have stuck at a weight for months then it has gradually lowered then it gets stuck again !
I can shift it - it just takes me longer than most .
Am tiny framed so its shows up easier on me too .

My numbers stubbornly stayed too high , till I went onto an insulin/victoza regime .
Tablets I either couldnt tollerate or they just didnt bring my BG levels down enough .
So it was agreed I would do the victoza/animal porcine insulin regime.
[levemir insulin I reacted to - with injection site lipos  ]

I use Victoza and do find it drops my BG levels by .5 or .6 of a BG reading meaning I can basal insulin 'less' units.
This combo is ideal for myself I have found .
Thing is with Victoza they will only prescribe this within certain 'guidelines' .
Not just based on higher BG levels .
Not 'all ' persons CAN tolllerate Victoza well either .
I actually CAN tollerate it very well so am lucky in doing so .

There is a lot to grasp with diabetes and yep it can worry and stress persons .
You arent a nuisance nor alone with this .

Are you just seen by your doctor GP ?
Are there any DSN [diabetic specialist nurses] available for you to talk about your worries/concerns with ?
You could ask your GP about them and see if he would be willing to refer you .
It appears lack of information for you isnt helping you currently.
You need to access more information via your own GP or a DSN .

We can only offer help and support here .
None of us are medically trained or qualified .

You do sound as if you need to access an appointment to discuss your concerns/worries
via an HCP/GP/DSN ...
Think about asking your GP for more help with your concerns/worries.

Let us know how things go too .

Anna.

Metformin, a prescription drug widely used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, helps control blood glucose levels and also increases the body’s response to insulin. While the side effects of metformin may make the drug’s use inadvisable for some patients, alternatives, including herbal remedies, are available. However, do not begin a regimen of self-treatment for diabetes or any other illness before consulting with your doctor.

( I'm sure you know that part:smile:) I could go on about metformin but does work for alot of people. Not taking it myself is a personal choice.

FENUGREEK
Practitioners of ayurvedic medicine, which has its origins on the Indian subcontinent, have been using fenugreek to treat a wide array of ailments for centuries. In recent years, medical researchers have sought to determine how effective the herb is in controlling the symptoms of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, according to Maggie Greenwood-Robinson, author of

“Control Diabetes in Six Easy Steps.”

In an Indian study, patients with type 1 diabetes were given daily doses of 100 g of defatted fenugreek seed powder, which was divided into two equal servings and incorporated into the patients’ daily diets. Another group of type 1 diabetics in the study followed a similar diet that did not include the fenugreek supplement. At the end of the 10-day study, patients in the fenugreek group showed sharply reduced fasting blood glucose levels, as well as improved glucose tolerance.

Greenwood-Robinson reports that Israeli researchers looked at fenugreek’s effectiveness in treating type 2 diabetes. They found that a daily supplement of 15 g of powdered fenugreek seed significantly reduced blood glucose levels after meals, leading them to conclude that fenugreek seems to have real potential as a treatment for type 2 diabetes.

Don’t take fenugreek without first consulting a medical professional.
