Over Easter my son asked me about my diabetes because he wasn't feeling well and thought he might have developed it. He put off going to gp until last week, and bloods done Thursday. He texted this morning to say cholesterol, bg and globulin all elevated. I told him he needed to know the figures. After he'd spoken to gp, he rang to say bg is 15. They're debating whether to do another fasting blood or a GTT - he'd prefer fasting blood because he says can't afford time off work for gtt. I did say that might not be a battle worth fighting because he needs to get his health sorted.
He's worried about a couple of things. How this will impact on his work - he does a lot of driving.
And how it's likely to affect his children - twins born in 2008. Apart from my aunt, I was the only person in the family who developed diabetes, so it was a shock to me. Less so for him, because of me, and he realised it was a possibility. But still not a club he wanted to join.
Tried to reassure him, and will pass on details of this forum. Anything else you can suggest, any information I can pass on.
