And have reduced my insulin and am trying to stick to 1300 calories a day but I am just not losing the weight although I do feel better in my self and more toned
Thank in advance for any help that can be given.

You do seem to be doing everything right, I would ask to speak with a dietitian who will advise on your diet.

Thanks I might try that , the docs sent me to a weight management scheme but when I went they would say speck to your diabetic team
Some one said to not eats carbs before I go to gym so my body has to us fat but not sure if it will work.

Try exercising before breakfast and remember burn more calories than you consume. I eat a strict low carb diet and cycle to work on a daily basis, The weight just drops off. In fact Its hard to put it on :-)

Hi thanks I tho about trying to do low carb just trying to find out some info on it at the moment
If I exercise before my breakfast tho will that not raise my sugar as I would have no insulin to bring the sugar released down ?

To deal with the sugars released by my body ?

Are your clothes fitting better? If your toning up could be you are loading some fat but muscle mass cause of the gym? Won't always show on the scales then.

Hi. You need to set yourself a daily carb limit; start, perhaps, with 150-200 gms max and see how you go. It's not just sugars that need reducing but all carbs; think low-carbs not low calories. Is your insulin balanced and are you carb-counting with it or is it fixed dose? Are you on a Basal/Bolus regime? Exercise can slightly confuse things and cause sugars to both go up and down. My DN suggested I had a bit of fruit before I started in the gym which I do and it makes sense (unless my sugar is already high)

i was 16.5 stone in October when i started low carbing im now just under 14.5 and still dropping by a couple of pounds a week.

Thanks for the advice I have tried reducing cabs the last few days I am not on a fixed dose so change the amount as I eat and have reduced the amount I am taking when exercising
It hard tho you forget the amount of carb that are in all different food I don't carb count as when I was diagnosed they did not do that I work on judging what's on my plate it stupid tho as I count carbs for my daughter but no one has ever offered to work my ratios out lol

If you know how to count carbs as you do for your daughter should be a good starting point to work out your ratios. If these are wrong and your having too much and treating lows then it will be harder to loose/maintain weight.

Im Still waiting for for my DAFNIE course, to be honest i worked out most of my own ratios though trial and error it takes a while but once you figure it out its worth it. then you can bulk out your meals with lots of Veg, i really enjoy a good salid with most of my meals now (with out the salid they would be to small to satisfy me) Stirfrys with Egg Noodles (around 30g of carbs per portion) with a whole bag of stir fry veg from tesco and some soy sauce is amazing. ive also used some Philadelphia light and mixed it with water for a sauce in the stir fry with some shrimp :) yum :)

I'm waiting for the dafne course too but have been at the carb counting clinic since January. Made a huge difference to my BG stability! I changes my background insulin from lantus to insuman basal & it's really helped to control my morning lows! I joined slimming world too in an attempt to get some good food choices in my diet! Amazing plan which I've actually lost 15lbs this year so far!!! Weight just creeps up on me but I'm seeing a big change. Now to crack the monthly torture of menstrual cycle, highs week before, lows all week & then 2 weeks of level BG readings! Love to hear how other type 1 diabetic ladies deal with it!

I too am overweight and I know why............I eat too many carbs and don't exercise enough...........

the more carbs you eat, the more insulin you take, and the more insulin you take, the greater the margin of error and therefore more surplus insulin swimming about.......this also contributes to the weight, or at least the difficulty in removing it......

:)

Hi I've never tried slimming world but I've slowly over the past 10 years put on 3 stones and I need to get rid off it my sugars are alwYs up and down I've got 3 boys though and find it hard to keep checking blood sugars I do morning ones and before I know it it's 6pm. Shattered is not the word xx but as a mother I typically put everyone first before myself I'm trying to carb count but I just cannot remember to stop and check blood sugars ive tried alarms etc I try to keep in touch with the diabetic team but contact has fizzled out I'm still waiting for the appointment they said they were sending me out in may :/ I know I'm not perfect and feel in a rut :/

Emma please get in touch with the clinic. Your a young Mum and you need to get your eyes photographed regularly. I know how hard it is as I have young children and they do take up a great deal of our time. Try ringing your consultants secretary.
